Oxygen level at 65 percent of what we are used to.

Gravity 1.08, so slightly more than what we are used to.

This will make us work our muscles! We are lucky, this moon seems to be quite viable for us. Our bodies should get used to the atmospheric pressure, oxygen concentration, and gravity conditions within a few days. Sarah and I also saved a portable analyzer, which will allow us to scan all the living elements within our reach. It will inform us of their composition and allow us to feed on local plants without poisoning ourselves. It also allows us to analyze the composition of minerals.” Eva holds up the portable scanner that looks like a showerhead. “You point the head at the object to be scanned like this!” She says as she approaches a plant at the edge of our camp. And press the little button on the left of the handle. You must be at least five meters away for the scan to complete. The entire scan takes between five and ten seconds, depending on the amount of data the scanner collects. The small light will turn from red to green when the scan is complete. Feel free to analyze all the minerals and plants you encounter, so the scanner can give you the full composition. As soon as the scan is complete, it sends the results to your tablets. Sarah and I each have our own. I don't know who among you managed to keep yours.”

Only Yohan and Yannis raise their hands to indicate that they took theirs with them when they escaped from the wreck of the Proud.

“We have also included a 3D replicator that will allow us to make simple tools or objects. The Analyzer/Replicator duo should make things easier for us.”

“To summarize your analysis, conditions are looking much better than the circumstances would suggest!” Marc says. “In addition, we have a blaster pistol that we had on hand at the time of the evacuation, and we have healing supplies for common injuries and a regeneration sarcophagus for extreme cases.”

“But if we have a sarcophagus, we don't need anything else, do we?”

“Not quite!” I intervene. “This little solar-powered technological gem can analyze any DNA that's in it and repair it identically. That's the good news. The bad news is that it works on physical damage rather than chemical damage. It will not cure poisoning or serious illness. And the other disadvantage and not the least, is that it has a limited number of cycles, that's why we had twelve on board. And that's why we kept them for serious injuries only. We wouldn't waste cycles.”

“OK, so for day-to-day use, we use the old-fashioned medicine and keep Sarc-11 as a spare for extreme cases,” concludes Marc.

“Another question arises. Why did we crash on this moon? And should we expect an extraction team soon?” asks Eva.

After a deep breath, Mark replies: “I haven't heard from the command bridge since I took my break, but I'm afraid the latest events are directly related to Gerard's treachery.”

Two days ago, the captain discovered the dishonest actions of his first officer, Gerard Millez, who during our mission to survey habitable worlds and their riches in the southeast quadrant, passed on these highly confidential reports to the outside world, presumably to sell to smugglers who are plundering worlds throughout the galaxy. Gerard was therefore removed from his position with immediate effect and was to be brought before the Confederation court.

David confirms:

“Louis was in cahoots with Gerard and snuck him out of the detention area. They both deserted the Proud six hours ago in a two-seater shuttle. Chances are they sabotaged the ship on the way out, to cover up their treachery and keep their place in the Confederation. Various damage started to show up after they escaped, and I was just picking up Marc in the gym at the captain's request.”

We are all appalled. To have survived sabotage and a crash is exceptional in itself. That we crashed into a viable moon by chance is even more so. The planet E-547-24 with two moons was not. And the AI had not yet begun the analysis of the atmosphere of these much smaller stars. That the one we landed on has a viable atmosphere is nothing short of a miracle.

“So, we're not sure we'll be rescued quickly. If at all!” admits Eva.
