“No, I went straight to bed after he left the kitchen. Where did he go? Didn't he have to have his last meal?”
Worry gnaws at me. It's not like Nixx to leave without warning. Besides, Lokk should at least be able to reach him. One after another, the Bastion men are returning from the search areas. They even went to the human quarters to wake up my friends, to see if Nixx was with Ferdinand. From what I understand, the two of them had a conversation after the last meal. But nothing to worry about.
But where can he be? I feel totally useless, left there, in a corner of the training ground. But nothing, they find nothing. Despite their wings and their telepathic abilities, they can't find him. Anxiety gnaws at me.
He's hurt, I'm sure.
To prevent any eventuality, I go to the lab to get my care kit, accompanied by Eva whom I meet on the way.
As I reach for it, I realize that it is not where I usually keep it and that it is open. I check the contents and immediately notice that the injector is missing.
“Eva, do you know where the injector went?”
“In your first aid kit.” she answers me immediately.
“That's just it, someone took it. Eva, please see which vials are missing.”
We meticulously search the bench where the vials brought back from the Proud are. The conclusion is clear: a vial of benzodiazepine, a powerful anesthetic, is missing. The most likely hypothesis is that the person who stole the injector and the vial was after Nixx, which would explain his lack of response to telepathic calls.
Damn, if he's unconscious, anything can happen to him. He may even be dead already. His attacker could have taken advantage of his unconsciousness to finish the job.
I am in an absolute panic. I grab vials to counteract the effects of the anesthetic, which can be cardiovascular or respiratory.
I run out of the complex, calling Lokk at the top of my lungs and head for the gate behind which I hope to find Tigger.
“Sarah, where are you going?”
“Lokk, someone stole an injector and an ampule of anesthetic. It's a violent poison. I think Nixx is unconscious somewhere outside the perimeter you've already searched. Stay with me, because if we find him, I'm going to need help.”
“OK, I'll let the others know, but where exactly are you planning to go like this?”
“I'll call Tigger and ask for his help.”
“Sarah, my beautiful, you can't count on an oncifelis to understand you.”
“Do you have a better idea?”
“Yes, our men will search for a body on the ground outside the perimeter as you just suggested. But it's dark, I don't think the search will be successful before sunrise.”
“Test your method and I'll test mine. But stay with me in case I find him.”
I hear him grumbling to himself as I walk through the gate and call Tigger. My big kitty arrives in a good elegant manner. I gently caress the top of his head and looking into the depths of his big red eyes, I tell him:
“Tigger, find Nixx! Nixx!”
He looks at me and raises his big fluffy head and turns his back to me, toward the forest.
“Sarah, you can't walk in there at night. It's way too dangerous.”
“So, take me in your arms and let's fly and make sure you don't lose sight of Tigger.”
“But Sarah, do you understand that it doesn't make sense to follow this animal like that?”
“If you don't want to go, then don't stop me from going.”
And turning my back to him, I rush after Tigger at the beginning of the jungle.
“Damn stubborn female!” Lokk growls, grabbing me in his arms.
