“She hit you that hard?”

“She caught me off guard,” I reply gruffly.

He smirks. “You let her.”

I grunt. “I didn’t say that.”

“You didn’t have to.” He chuckles. “This is going to be fun, watching you chase a woman half your age.”

I stare out the window of the training compound. It’s dark now. But I still see her. Her blue eyes and her hard body. She’s flashing in front of me, her fists flying, her green eyes wild with defiance. Every move was calculated.

God, she was beautiful.

“She came at me like she wanted to kill me,” I mutter.

David chuckles. “And you liked it.”

“Ilovedit.” I turn my attention to him. I can’t get over how much we look alike. The fact that we’re brothers is evident in our dark hair, intense eyes, and chiseled chins.

He glances up and looks intently at me. “You’re in trouble.”

It’s the statement of the century.Fuck.I hate it when he’s right.

“She was supposed to be a formality,” I say. “A peace offering. A pawn,” I explain.

“And now?” His eyebrows furrow.

I exhale slowly. “Now she’s a fucking queen and I can’t get her out of my system.”

David tilts his head. “She got in your head already?”

“She’slivingin it—and I don’t care!”

I press the ice pack harder to my side. I can still feel the echo of her fist. I saw the satisfaction in her smirk when it landed. She wasn’t trying to flirt. But it was sexy as hell.

She was trying to break me. She wanted to leave a mark and make a statement.

And all I wanted was to drag her closer and kiss her until she forgot her name.

“She’s different. She’s not afraid of me,” I say.

“That’s what scares you?”

“No,” I murmur. “That’s whatexcitesme.”

David finishes reloading and slides the magazine into the drawer. “You gonna make her fall in love?”

I smirk. “No. I’m going to make herrealizeshe already has.” She’s been on my mind since the first time I laid eyes on her. I know she has feelings for me, but I wonder if it’s me or just the physical aspect.

David’s quiet is a beat too long. Then he says, “Radovan’s still talking.”

“I know.”

“And Bianca doesn’t know the extent of what she’s signing up for,” he says, pointing out that I have traitors I need to extinguish.

“She doesn’t need to,” I say coldly. “Not yet.”

David nods, but his eyes stay sharp. “You sure you can keep your head straight? Between her and the council?”
