“Yes, it is,” I sigh, turning back to the laptop.

That night at seven o’clock, after Lily had been dropped off at Jade, I drove Rose towards the ocean.

She’s wearing a soft silk dress and a fluffy coat to stay warm. She looks beautiful and elegant.

She’s given up asking me what the surprise is and instead, she’s glued to the window, trying to guess as we drive through the city.

“The restaurant on the roof of that hotel. The one that spins?”

“Nope.”

“Is it a fancy hotel?”

“Nope.”

She huffs.

When we pull up at the parking lot near the beach, I take her and Lily too, and she looks over at me in confusion.

“Are we going to the beach?” she asks.

“Yes.”

“It’s dark, though, and I have high heels on—"

“Take them off. Walk barefoot.”

I climb out of the car and walk around to open her door. She kicks her shoes off in the car, smiling with curiosity.

When I pull the blindfold out of my pocket, she pouts her lip out.

“Just trust me, angel.”

She turns her back to me and lets me tie it over her eyes.

I guide her over the sand, close to the water’s edge.

She walks confidently, with full trust in me, until I pull her to a stop in front of a hundred fairy lights, draped over a massive white arch, covered in roses. Candles are scattered over the sand around our feet, and there are big glowing letters, in bold pink, sayingWill you marry me, Rose?

I step away from her, get down onto my knee in the sand in front of her, and hold out the ring.

“You can take off the blindfold now,” I grin.

She pulls the knot open, and it falls away.

Her mouth drops open. Rose stares at the scene around her, and her breathing gets faster.

She looks down at me and before I’ve had a chance to actually ask her, she dives into me, screaming, “Yes.” She knocks me backwards and smothers me with a tight hug, her arms wrapped around my neck.

I’m laughing so hard I can barely get out from beneath her.

She keeps saying yes, yes, yes.

“Wait, I didn’t ask you,” I laugh, pulling her to her feet and kneeling again.

“Rose, will you do the honor, and make me the happiest man in the world—will you marry me?”
