Chapter 18 - Rose

Ark is cheeky and fun.

He’s spinning me around and making me laugh. I’m honestly surprised he’s such a good dancer. Although he is the type to be surprising.

“Where did you learn to dance?” I ask as he pulls me close again.

“It’s a funny story,” he muses.

“I’m sure it is.”

“A good friend of mine was supposed to marry the man of her dreams. But she found out he was cheating on her. She almost killed him. The wedding was already planned and paid for. Cake. Dress. Honeymoon. The works. Including dance lessons.”

“Oh, so you went with her?”

“Actually, I did all of it with her. She needed a friend, and I was up for some fun. We did all the dance classes, we had a massive party instead of a wedding. She got to wear the dress. And then we went on a holiday and drank too many cocktails and had a good laugh about how lucky she was not to land up married to that moron.”

I shake my head. “That’s actually—really sweet of you to do that for her. Unless you only did it to get laid.”

“Darling, I don’t have to do all that to get laid. I have a woman lining up outside my door.”

“Gross.” I scrunch my nose at him. He laughs, dipping me backwards, letting his hand drift over my throat.

My eyes drift towards Luka, who has not stopped watching us.

Ark pulls me back against him and grins, tilting his head to the side.

“My brother’s changed.”

“What do you mean?”

“A few months ago, I was complaining that he had a stick so far up his ass he could hardly walk. Now he’s relaxed. He’s taking tequila shots. He’s having fun since you came into his life…back into his life…whatever you want to call it.” He looks over at Luka. “Well, he’s not having funright now.”He lets his hand drift way too low down my back, and I quickly pull it up.

“Stop that, don’t think I don’t know you only dancing with me to annoy him.”

“It’s working.” He raises his brows at me. He’s pure mischief, and I can’t help but enjoy it.

“I don’t think he’s that worried,” I sigh, wishing he were. But maybe I’m wrong. Maybe Ark knows his brother better than I do.

No, that’s wishful thinking.

Ark spins me again, and I catch sight of Luka, standing alone with his arms folded across his chest.

He is jealous.

Oh my word.

Ark is right.

Luka starts walking towards us and Ark laughs. He stops dancing, takes my hand in his, and bows comically. “My darling, it’s been a pleasure.” Then he rushes away just as Luka arrives.

I’m still grinning when I turn towards Luka.

He holds out his hand, his face stern and grumpy.

“May I have a dance?” he asks. Before I can place my hand in his, he wraps his arm around my waist and tugs me hard against him. There is no space between us as he runs his hands up my waist, around my back.

My heart races as he begins to move against me.
