“I see you think of everything before you make a decision,” Fiona said. “I like that about you; however, I hope it doesn’t hinder you being quick on your feet. That’s just as important as thinking every decision out fully.”
That was a fair assessment. “That is true. I do like to think about every angle before I make a final decision on things. I mean, you can’t really get away with certain things without doing so.” My brow hitched. “Even with that being said, if it’s a situation that requires me to think on my feet, I have no problem doing so. This is not one of those situations, so I want to ask all of the questions I need to so that I can make a sound decision.”
“Touché. Well, you will be on the payroll at one of my legal companies. Ironically, my family does own a legal disposal company for waste and such. You will be covered for tax purposes. Also, you are an independent contractor for your electrician jobs. I have several buildings that have electricity.” She sat back in her seat, then crossed one leg over the other.
“Okay, well, I’d like to accept the opportunity.” I knew that I would the second that she asked me, but I couldn’t let her know that. Sometimes, overzealousness didn’t benefit you.
When she was in New Mexico with me, I saw how she handled things. She sat back quietly and observed every stepthat I took. Although she was quiet, I heard her mind talking. Before I sent James and Taco Shell to Eywa in the sea, I thought about everything. None of the things were strong enough for me to not do what I did.
Galiana’s cheeks rose to help her lips separate to display her perfect white teeth. “That is great news. For the next steps, I’ll allow you to solidify everything with your other employer first before we set our schedule in place. Now, as I said, there will be a legal part of this onboarding. I already have your email, so I’m going to have the background check sent over and things like that. Once all of the legal paperwork is done and cleared, we’ll talk again. Cool?”
“Yeah, that sounds like a plan.” We both stood. I accepted her hand when she extended it to me.
We headed back to the other private room with the rest of the girls. By the time we came back into the room, Pea and Mauri had arrived. I knew them because of their husbands. When I sat back down, Fiona leaned toward me and bumped into my shoulder. She wore the biggest smile. I was sure she knew what Galiana planned to ask me. I loved my cousin and knew that she would make sure I was taken care of when I moved here.
Taelyn leaned forward. “Mauri, guess who Mekole has a crush on? T.J.”Wait a minute! How was it determined that I had a crush on his ass?
Mauri’s head snapped in my direction. “Um, you know that man is a little crazy? I just want to make sure you know what you have a crush on.
What the fuck!
A Very Little Time Later . . .
My hand went down the front of my business suit jacket to make sure everything was where I wanted it to be. I looked at my reflection in the window of my SUV to play with my hair for a moment. I looked amazing, as always, and was ready to knock out this interview.
A couple of days ago, I got a call from T.J. asking me to come in for an interview. I expected the call and was prepared. Fiona said that this was more of a formality. We would see.
After I checked my lip gloss, I walked toward the office. The office was inside of a manufactured home in the front of their show lot. This was not where the homes were put together, but where customers came to select a home for purchase as well as the different interior options. When I walked into the front door, I gasped lowly in surprise at the beauty of the interior and décor.
It looked like a home, not an office. I walked toward the kitchen to take a closer look. This house was bad and had so much space.
“You like what you see?” T.J.’s voice saturated the air around me.
When I turned around, I stepped toward the kitchen island to discretely lean my weight against it. This man had on a business suit that fit his body like it was stitched onto it. His tattoos still peeked out from under the collar of his dress shirt.Yeah, this man is fine in all the ways.
“Yes, this home is extremely nice. This is my first time in a home like this,” I admitted. “I’m very impressed.”
His smile was bright. “Thank you. We take pride in our homes here at Burke. We’re the only black-owned manufacturer home business that not only sells but manufactures our own inventory in the region. A lot of distributors don’t manufacture as well.”
That was commendable. “Oh wow! That is amazing.” I finally stepped around the kitchen island in his direction. “Oh, you smell great.”I did not mean to say that out loud. The fuck!
He stepped into my personal space, lowered himself, then put his face in my neck. What the whole fuck of my wet pussy!“You smell good as fuck too.” His hands went into his slacks pockets. “Did that make you uncomfortable?”
“No, I can’t say that it did,” I responded. “It probably should have, but it didn’t.” Everything in my soul told me that this man would snatch it with no remorse and I would never get it back.Run, bitch, run!
His smirk was bold and sexy. “Good. If any of my advances make you uncomfortable, please let me know. It is not my desire to make you feel uncomfortable at all.”
His choice of words perked my ears and pussy. “You plan to make advances? Doesn’t that break like an HR law or something?”
“It does if it’s unwanted.” He gazed at me for a moment. “Let me know if any of my advances are unwanted, and I will stop. We can move to my office for the formal interview.”
I guess that was my answer to if he planned to make advances.I admired his broad back as I walked behind him.I wonder if he’s completely tatted.
His office décor was just as nice as the front room and kitchen. I scanned the pictures on the wall and the table behind his desk, for children or females. There weren’t a lot of pictures, but the ones that were there didn’t have children in them. There was a few with a woman, but she looked like his mother.
For the next thirty minutes, he asked me various questions around my skill set and items on my résumé. I was surprised at his professionalism. Especially after the man put his face in my neck. By the end of the interview, I had a job offer of ninety-eight dollars an hour. It was a full-time position at the production plant. I loved working on new builds more than I did when I worked in a lab.
“I look forward to working with you and getting to know more about you, Mekole,” T.J. said once we were back out in the front room. His handshake was so solid. He was so solid. “Would you like to take a tour of our model home options to get an idea of what we sell?”
