“Yo, this is insane, Mekole! Are you really going to do this shit? You know you’d never get away with this shit. My mom and her mom are gonna come looking for us. What are you going to say?” James asked me with a scratchy voice.
I ignored him to stick the needle between Faheeta’s second and third toe. It didn’t take her long to doze off. It was only then that I felt the need to answer the questions posed from the fuck boy to the right of her. “I’m not worried about your mammie or hers. Trust me, getting caught is the least of my worries. If I were you, I would go ahead and get your spiritual life together so you’re permitted into those pearly gates. I plan to send you and your baby mama to the reception line.”
I stuck the needle between his first and second toe. In minutes, he was out like a little baby. I returned to my seat, reclined it, pulled my blanket over me, and got ready for my nap. I had not a worry in the world right now.
I wasn’t sure how long I was asleep before I was pulled out of it. My arms went up in the air for a good stretch before I opened my eyes. They closed and opened again. I pulled the recliner in the upright position. “What are you doing here? Who is this?”
“Girl, what the fuck you got going on in here?” Fiona asked with a giggle. I could tell she tried to stifle it, but she couldn’t help it. She’d calmed down in her maturity, but I’d heard stories about my favorite cousin. She pointed to the woman that stood beside her. “This is my homegirl, Galiana. She has a special set of skills that you may need since now we got to kill two people. Now, tell me what got us here.”
I was interested in what kind of skills she had. We would get to that later. I stood to my feet so that I could do a little show-and-tell. “This man here is James. He’s my most recent ex and my son Derrick James’s father.” After my hand extended toward the other that hung, I said, “This is my ex-best friend, Faheeta. You can call her Taco Shell though.”
Fiona’s and Galiana’s heads dropped. “What the entire fuck?” Galiana mumbled. When her head lifted, she asked, “What did Faheeta do?”
“Well, she’s been sleeping with James for years, and her new daughter is his child. Oh, her daughter was born on the day of D.J.’s funeral. That’s why he wasn’t there.” I paused for a second. “I want to make sure I get the words right. He didn’t come to the funeral because he wanted to be with the baby that was alive.”
Fiona’s and Galiana’s heads snapped in James’s direction. He and his whore were still asleep. “Yeah, no. That’s good enough for me,” Fiona said before she walked to the door.
Next thing I knew, my dad, Uncle Dan, Croy, and another man that I didn’t know came in the door. The man that I didn’t know stood there for a second before he chortled. “I see that crazy shit runs in the damn family. This shit crazy. How the fuck you get their asses in here and up there?”
I knew his question derived from wanting to know if I had help. “I have my way that don’t involve others. I know better than having too many hands in the pot. I’m sorry, who are you?”
Galiana stepped forward. “Sorry, this is my husband, Jacob. He’s going to help.”
My face contorted. “I don’t need help. I got this under control.”
My cousin stared at me, wide-eyed. She put her hands up. “Okay, big killer. How do you plan to get rid of these bodies after you do whatever you’re going to do with them?”
“See those oil drums? Body in, top on, drill holes, then drop in the Sea of Cortez. The holes ensure it will sink.” I thought about how I wanted to do this. This wasn’t a fly-by-night plan.
I watched Galiana’s eyebrows dance up her forehead. “How do you know people won’t be out there when you go to drop the bodies. Wait, you have a boat?”
My father shook his head. “Yeah, we have a boat. I want to hear this plan too. People fish and all kind of shit out there.”
I rolled my eyes. “First, do you think I’m going to go out a little then dump the bodies? One, the Sea of Cortez is in Mexico. I went out there last week to go fishing. Daddy, that’s where the fish came from.”
He nodded. “Your mama liked those fish too. What time is the best time?”
“Around four in the morning.” My head turned toward the sound of moaning. “Taco Shell, how was your nap?”
It took her a moment to get herself together. “Wh-what’s going on? Who are these people? Are y’all going to help us?”
“Ma’am, don’t you think if we were going to help you that we would have done that by now?” Galiana quipped. She turned toward me with crossed arms. “I blame you for this foolishness. When you met this girl and she told you that her name was Faheeta, you should have known her ass would fold.”
My laughter came from my gut. “I see what you did there. Fajitas fold!”
Uncle Dan snickered. “Alright, what the fuck are you going to do once people do realize they’re missing? That’s going to happen, little girl.”
My head fell back. “Taco Shell, shut the hell up.” Her whimpering gave me a headache. “Guys, can we please just let me work my plan. Both of their cell phones are in their hotel rooms in Vegas along with their smart watches and all that stupid shit. I got this.”
Fiona tapped on her phone after she asked me what hotel they stayed in. “Mauri, I need you.” She walked out. The name Mauri was familiar to me. Her technology expertise crossed over into my electrical expertise at times.
“How about we just let her do her thing so we can get these fuckas out of here,” Jacob said. “I want to get my ass back to some wind. This dry ass heat in the middle of the night here is not what it is.”
We all laughed. “Well, let’s get to it. I’m ready to get in my bed.” I took a final look at the people that thought I was to be played with.
My best friend since middle school who I thought knew me in and out. I hated that I was loyal to her, but in my heart, I didn’t think that she was always a ho ass traitor. The problem was since she was able to do it, it was always in her. James, he was just a fuck ass nigga. I wouldn’t put too much stock into him. He was D.J.’s father, and that was all I could barely give him. It wasn’t like he was the doting father to be when I was pregnant, and now I knew why.
I turned the voltage up all the way and closed my eyes before I hit the button to light their asses up. They both screamed until life left their bodies.I hope they got their spirits right when they were taking their naps.
