Savage and Loyal are behind me. I lean down, peeking into the car. I’m both relieved and scared to death that she’s not there.
Dialing Dex, I wait for his answer.
“She left the clubhouse alone. The guy you asked about has been on campus all morning. I did find something interesting, though. Before she left the clubhouse, she was walking with Biggy. I called and asked the prospect about it. He said it looked like they were friends. He didn’t think anything of it.”
“Biggy doesn’t do friends with women. Where is he now?”
“See, that’s the thing. He took off out of the clubhouse after she left. I’m tracking his phone now, and he’s in some pay-by-the-hour motel in the next town over. Seems suspicious,” Dex tells me.
Fuck. He has her.
Turning to Savage, I tell him, “He has her. I know he has her. I’m going to get my girl.”
He nods. “I told you whatever you have to do the moment he breaks the rules, I’ve got your back. Lead the way.”
“Dex, send me the address.”
“Already done. I’ll monitor the cameras and tell you if they leave.”
He hangs up, leaving me to do one thing.
I’m going to get my girl.
Pain.
All I feel is pain.
My ribs and collarbone hurt so bad I’m scared to move. It hurts to breathe. My head is pounding like a freight train.
Did I break a rib?
What the hell happened, and why does everything smell musty?
It all comes back to me at once. Leaving the clubhouse, noticing Biggy following me, him chasing me off the road, rolling, then everything goes blank.
I hear some pacing somewhere in the room with me, making me tense.
My heart races and my mouth goes dry. I don’t know where I am, but I know one thing: I’m either on a bed or a very soft couch that’s large. I keep my breaths light, and my eyes close. The last thing I need is for him to know I’m awake.
Play this smart. Buy time. The more time you have, the more chance Fang has to find me.
Fang.
God, I bet he’s going out of his mind with worry. Unless he doesn’t know what happened yet. No, that can’t be. He has to know. I know Bailey’s contact would have called her when she realized I was late.
This is a nightmare.
I need to get up and run, but I know without a shadow of a doubt I wouldn’t make it far. My entire body aches. I’d be moving slower than I normally would and he would catch me easily.
No, I need to wait this out.
I feel the tears building, but I refuse to let them fall.
The bed shakes. “Wake up!”
Opening my eyes, I hiss. The room is so bright it hurts my head.
“Welcome to the land of the living,” Biggy says darkly.
