Chapter Seven
Brody knew his eyes kept drifting towards Olivia’s legs and she’d noticed. She kept reaching down to tug the hem of her damn dress lower. The moment he’d clapped eyes on the black haired, blue eyed beauty, he knew he was done for. Even though at the time, he’d been doing Valentina.
He didn’t know what she was doing there though. It was patently obvious that she had no clue about construction, although she could spot the flaws in his project plan straight away. She’d spun him some story about being dumped and doing a favour to her friend. Caro had been pretty hot on keeping things in check and coming over as and when she felt she needed to. So why she felt the need to send someone in her place, he had no idea.
“Do you plan on being here every day?” he asked. “Because if so, I’ll need to sort out an office area for you.”And get Valentina to stop coming over.
“I don’t know. Do you think I need to be here that often?” She wrinkled her nose as she contemplated the idea.
“No.” The word came out a lot firmer than Brody intended. He’d be happy to see her every day, get to know her a little better. Find out why that idiot of an ex decided to dump her.
“Oh.” Her tone radiated disappointment.
Hastily, he backtracked. “What I meant was that it can get pretty noisy here when everything’s going on and if you needed to concentrate on something, it might be difficult.”
“Right.”
Brody watched her bite on her bottom lip, as she mulled over whatever was going through her head. He wondered if she tasted as sweet as she looked.
“Maybe we can agree on a schedule of when I will be here. Perhaps afternoons would be better? When your guys are taking a break?” suggested Olivia. “I came by yesterday and there was no-one here.”
So, shewasspying on him. Brody’s hackles rose again. It was one thing having Caro come over to see how things were going, after all she was the owner and the one paying the bills. It was something else entirely if she had sent someone else to do her dirty work for her.
“Yeah, the guys asked if they could finish off some work they had for someone else.”
“That’s hardly helping things here, is it?” Olivia’s brows knotted together. “No wonder you’re so behind schedule.”
It was tempting for Brody to bite back, but he’d only met the woman less than an hour ago and already he wanted to spend more time with her. Damaging his chances by scaring her off on day one wasn’t a good idea.
“They won’t be doing it again.” His tone was firm, and he resolved to get things back on track. “Going back to what you were saying, yes, afternoons probably would be better. Less deliveries and interruptions too.”
“Good. That’s the plan then.”
Olivia smiled, and her blue eyes lit up. Brody lost himself again.
“Great. Well, I need to get back to work or, like you said, or we won’t be making much progress.” There was a part of him that wanted to prolong the meeting and another that said he would have plenty of time to get to know more about Olivia Cole over the coming few days.
She slid off the stool and gathered her things together. “Nice meeting you, Brody. I’m sure we’ll see each other again soon.”
Oh, you can bank on that.“I’m sure we will. Nice meeting you too, Olivia.”
He watched Olivia leave, the way her arse moved under the dress, her shapely calves and slender ankles, and cursed himself as his cock began to harden. More than ever, he was grateful he hadn’t done any more than talk to the hen night group at Legends the previous evening. Despite some serious flirtation on their side, and perhaps a little from his, it hadn’t gone any further than a vague plan to meet up somewhere that night. And he already knew he would renege on that plan.
Brody shook his head and reached for the phone.
Caro answered after a couple of rings. “I take it you’ve met Olivia then.”
“What the hell, Caro? Why have you sent someone over to spy on me?”
“It’s not that, Brody. She needed some time away from here, and I couldn’t leave The Indigo Lounge.”
“She knows nothing about the build.”
“Which is probably just as well given how far behind it is.”
Brody flinched—her words stung. “What do you want me to do about it?”
From hundreds of miles away, Brody could hear Caro’s sigh as if she were standing right beside him.
