The dark-haired women recoiled at his breath and screwed up her face. “She’s welcome to you.”
“But she’s not here and you are.” He moved towards her, pinning her body against the jukebox with his. “Come on, indulge me.”
“Er, I don’t think so.” She pushed him away and he wobbled unsteadily in front of her. “Vic, let’s get out of here.”
Pep appeared at Brody’s side. “I think you might have had enough to drink for this evening.” He turned to the group. “I’m so sorry. Please, at least have a complimentary drink before you go.”
“Nah, you’re okay. But we’ll come back tomorrow if that offer’s still there?”
“Of course, of course. Make sure you ask for me personally, I’m Pep.”
Brody barely registered the exchange as he tried to reach for another beer.
“That’s enough for you tonight, Brody.” Pep swept the bottle out of his reach. “I suggest you go home and sleep it off.”
He didn’t even make it as far as the door, choosing instead to slump on a stool at the bar. “I miss her, Pep.”
“Who? Valentina?”
Why the hell did everyone think that he was so into Valentina?
“No. Olivia.”
Pep’s face registered confusion. “Who’s that? I’ve never heard you mention that name before.”
“She’s the reason I haven’t been around for a while.”
“Where is she now?”
“Not here,” groaned Brody.
His friend tried to conceal a grin. “I know that, because otherwise you wouldn’t have been bothering those women. Who are now going to cost me a fortune because of your bad behaviour. Why aren’t you with her?”
“Because she’s at home in England. And I won’t see her for another two days.”
“You have got it bad. I’ve never seen you like this over a woman before.”
Brody realised Pep was right. He hadn’t been so hung up over someone in a long, long time. It had always been easier for him to keep things light, not get involved. He knew he was never going to stay in the same place for any length of time. Take a heart and break a heart, that had been his motto.
Up until now.
He still didn’t know what made Olivia different and why he wanted more with her.
But he was damn sure he was going to find out.
