“Yeah, sounds good. I’m going away for a little while soon though, so maybe when I get back?” said Montana.
Her words hit me like a dash of cold water to the face. The reminder that, of course, she was going away with Hugo. I figured she only said what she did to be polite and to make Roman think he had a chance.
We said our final goodbyes and Roman and I headed off toward the stairs. As we did so, I noticed Montana was hanging back, waiting for Hugo. He was still chatting to a couple of women and I could see phones being passed around between them.
My blood boiled.
They hadn’t even gone on another date and he was still collecting phone numbers.
I bet Montana didn’t even have a clue. I felt bad for her. I wanted to go over to that douchebag and give him a piece of my mind, tell him he was treating Montana like shit and if he was going to screw her over again he needed to step away. But I held back. I knew Montana wouldn’t appreciate it if I went wading in. Even so, I was disappointed in her too.
Why would she go back to him?
She deserved more.
She deserved me.

Montana
While Bree said her extended goodbyes to Will and Roman, I sought out Hugo. As I walked up to him, he hurriedly stuffed his phone into his pocket before kissing my cheek.
“Montana, I’m so pleased you’ve decided to come away with me. It’s going to be amazing. You’ll need to take the whole of next week off. Can you manage that?” His grin split his face.
My interest piqued. An entire week?Where was he taking me? It had to be London. He was finally acknowledging my dream. Visions of Buckingham Palace, Trafalgar Square and Kensington Gardens floated through my mind. It was all I could do not to leap on him.
“It will be the first thing I ask my boss in the morning. And thank you so much for my necklace, it’s gorgeous.” My own grin mirrored his. “Are you ready to go?” I asked.
His gaze slipped toward the restroom. “I need the bathroom first. You go ahead. I’ll call you tomorrow.” Absently, he kissed my forehead before disappearing.
“Ugh, what were you doing talking to him?” Bree wrinkled her nose as we went down the stairs and out into the night air.
“Oh my God, Bree, I have so much to tell you! You’ll never believe what happened.” Carefully, I pulled the Tiffany box out of my bag and cracked open the top just enough for Bree to peek in. “Hugo gave me my anniversary gift.”
Bree eyebrows shot up as she examined the necklace. “Wow, that’s some present. And he apologised and everything?”
“He did, very briefly. But he did say he wanted to get back with me. He’s asked me to go away with him. For a whole week! A kind of make-up trip, I guess.”
Bree stopped stock-still on the sidewalk. “He did what?”
“Do you think he’s taking me to London?” I squealed.
She licked her lips carefully. “No, I do not think he is taking you to London. Sorry to burst your bubble, hon.” Bree let out a sigh. “But since you’re so damn determined to make it work with the twatwaffle…any chance I can date Will if he asks?”
Will. I hadn’t given him much thought after Hugo had sprung the trip on me. We’d had that awkward five minutes and I’d told him he didn’t know anything about my history with Hugo. Well, he didn’t.
“I mean, he may not even ask, but in case he does?” Bree’s eyes were full of hope.
It would be super selfish of me to keep Will hanging on and deny Bree a shot at a good guy with a sexy accent. I nodded. “If he asks, go for it. Hugo and I are going to work things out this time, I can feel it,” I said, firmly. I wasn’t sure who I was trying to convince more, Bree or myself.
“Right.” From Bree’s tone, I wasn’t sure whether she was referring to my acceptance of her dating Will or Hugo and I getting back together.
We carried on walking to her apartment building, passing time with chatter about the other guys we’d spoken to that evening who weren’t Hugo or Will.
We laughed as we compared our experiences of bobspider271. He’d kept with the Spider-Man and Fortnite theme for Bree too. She seemed to have come away with a few numbers and I’d come away with the promise of a holiday of a lifetime.
I couldn’t wait.
