I wondered if that extended to kissing me.

Stop it, Lo. He’s a patient.

“I’ll even do extra exercises.” He seemed sincere and desperate.

Against my better judgement, I pulled my hand away. “Why the sudden change of heart?”

Jack hesitated for a moment. “Maddox. Lyla, Ciara. The rest of your fan club.”

Wait.What?

I’d only met Maddox and Lyla the previous evening. How the hell had either of them even had the chance to speak to Jack? And as for Ciara. Well, she was a devious little minx.

“I don’t have fans.” I protested. “Other than Ciara, I don’t even have friends. Have you ever tried being the outsider in this town?”

His eyes narrowed and my skin prickled while he studied me. “More than you’d probably realize, sweetheart.”

“Ha, I doubt that very much. I imagine everyone was clamoring to see Jack Cairney, the returning hero. You probably have a bigger fan club than Tom Brady.”

Jack sighed. “Lo, I’m trying to make things up to you here. I’m saying I’ll be a good patient and I’ll do anything you ask of me.”

‘Anything’ sounded tempting. But I wasn’t about to capitulate and throw my panties off just because Jack Cairney had promised to behave himself in physical therapy.

“Come on, Lo. I’ll make you a deal.” He sat back in his chair, arms folded across his chest, and fixed me with his glorious blue eyes. “Go out with me. Have some fun. And I’ll work my ass off in therapy.”

My mouth twitched. “From what I can see, your ass is fine. It’s your ankle I’m supposed to be working on. Not to mention your attitude.”

He let out a hearty laugh. “You’re right. My ass is fine. It’s everything else that needs some work.”

It wasn’t a terrible offer. One date in exchange for building trust. He’d work hard in therapy. And maybe I’d end up making some friends in this town.

I held out my hand. “Deal.”
