He and Curtis stared at me expectantly.
“Amber said Lennon had the best time.” Curtis grinned.
I winced. “She didn’t tell you all the details though, right?” They might be my best friends, but I really didn’t want them knowing the full lowdown on my sex life.
“Just the beautiful gift you gave her and how much she loves you.” He mimed sticking his fingers down his throat.
“Ah, young love, so pure.” Alex snorted and I gave him the middle finger.
“I’m scared I’m going to lose her,” I admitted, circling my glass on the table. “Seeing her university, viewing all those flats with her, watching the old Lennon Cole coming out, it’s as if this summer never happened.”
“Don’t be ridiculous,” sniffed Alex. “She’s fallen hard for you, mate. I don’t think there’s any chance of her walking away.”
I hoped he was right.
My phone pinged. All I could see were the celebration emojis and hearts. I reached for it, and read Lennon’s message, buried beneath the graphics.
Lennon: Lucas just called!!!! Lisa and Toby agreed I could move in!!! I’M SO EXCITED!!! xxxx
Justin: Fantastic news! We should celebrate, where are you? xxx
Lennon: At Amber’s. I’ll see you at home. Hurry!!! Xxxx

On the wayback to Lennon’s, I picked up a cheap bottle of champagne. If we were going to celebrate, we may as well do it properly. The moment I got through the door, Lennon leaped on me, wrapping her legs around my waist. I staggered backwards, hitting the wall.
“Hey, at least let me get through the door.” I laughed, placing her on the floor. I waved the bottle at her. “You’ll break the champagne.”
She grabbed it from me, twisted the foil and cap off, before easing the cork out with a gentle pop.
“You’ve clearly done that before.” I quirked an eyebrow.
“I might have had some practice.” Lennon tipped the bottle to her mouth and greedily drank some down.
“Did you need a glass?”
“Nope, all good.” She shook her head and took another swig.
“And here’s me thinking you’re a classy bird, when really you’re not,” I teased, taking the bottle back from her tilting it to my own mouth. “So what did Lucas say when he called you?”
“You really want to talk about Lucas?” Lennon pouted. “I thought we were celebrating.”
I took a deep breath and reached for her hands. “Lennon, we need to talk.”
The pout turned into a frown. “We do? This sounds serious.”
We went into the living room and curled up on opposite ends of the sofa.
Lennon cradled the champagne bottle between her legs. “What’s this about? Are you jealous of Lucas?”
Although there might have been a grain of truth in her question, it wasn’t the biggest thing freaking me out right now. I didn’t know his background or history, whether he was single or in a relationship, hell, he might even be gay for all I knew. Lucas was the least of my worries.
“It’s not about Lucas.”
“Then what?” Her blue eyes were wide as her fingers entwined in the feather necklace.
“Lennon, I always knew this summer would end, and I always knew you were going back to London.” I swallowed. “And I never thought we would become a thing.”
