Heat pooled in my core and my nipples tightened. I swallowed and placed the plate on the table before I dropped it.

Before I could reply, the barman from the Ealynn Marina Hotel and a blonde I recognised as the woman who had tried to offer me Blossom treatments at the Fortunes for Favours event, came over to us.

“Happy Birthday! You must be Georgie,” the woman said. “I’m Amber. Alex’s sister.” She kissed me on both cheeks, her grin wide.

“Curtis.” The man held out his hand. “Amber’s boyfriend and Alex’s mate.”

I nodded. “I remember you from the hotel. Nice to see you again.”

The four of us made polite chit chat while I nibbled on the food. I couldn’t get Alex’s words out of my head.

Was it really such bad form to leave your own birthday party early?

For the next hour,I barely left Georgie’s side, certain she was desperate for us to be alone. I didn’t want to miss the opportunity whenever it arose.

Honestly, I wished I hadn’t suggested this damn party and had taken her out, just the two of us.

That fucking sequinned dress which grazed her thighs and clung to every curve, was destined to be ripped off the minute we were together. It took every ounce of my willpower to calm the sensations building in my cock. I thought about work rotas, ran through recipes in my head, worked out a strategy for my next game of Call of Duty. Anything to stop the stiffening in my jeans.

“I think I need a cigarette,” said Georgie, after we’d finished chatting to Amber and Curtis again. “Do you want to come outside with me?”

Disappointment at her wanting to leave for a smoke mixed with elation at the chance to snatch a couple of moments with her.

“Can you find my coat?” she asked, brushing her lips against mine.

I did as she asked, keeping one eye on her as she spoke to her sister. I hadn’t given her the present yet, so I hoped Darcy wasn’t spoiling the surprise.

“Here you go.” I slid Georgie’s coat around her shoulders. “We’ll be back soon,” I reassured Darcy.

Stepping out into the cold November air took my breath away. Glad I’d picked up my jacket as well, I pulled it around myself, waiting for Georgie to follow me.

“Can’t believe I said I’d come outside with you to facilitate your filthy habit,” I complained when she joined me. “Must like you for that to happen.”

Georgie didn’t show any signs of going into her bag for a cigarette. I wished she would hurry up, if we stayed out here too long, I’d get frostbite.

“I’m sure you’ve got a few filthy habits of your own.” She ran her tongue along her bottom lip, her hazel green eyes staring directly at me. “Want to show me some?”

“What do you mean?” I frowned.

“I don’t want a cigarette, well, at least not until afterwards anyway.”

“Until after what?”

Georgie closed the distance between us and kissed me so thoroughly I had to catch my breath. Her fingers flitted across my crotch, making her intentions all that much clearer.

“Your place or mine?” I pulled back and placed my hands on her cheeks.

“Well, you know where they both are. Which is closer?”

The Kane house for sure. I couldn’t remember what Mum was doing and fervently hoped she wouldn’t be around. I didn’t need the cross-examination when we stepped through the door, but I was prepared to take the risk. I grabbed Georgie’s hand.

“We’ll go to mine.”

What would normally have been around a five-minute walk took closer to fifteen. We kept stopping every so often to kiss or point at the moon and stars. For two people desperate to be close with each other, we were doing a damn fine job of prolonging it. Then again, anticipation always made everything so much more worthwhile.
