Lex pulled back from me so abruptly I wondered where the fire was.Although my dick could give me a pretty good idea.“What’s wrong?”

She waved a finger in the space she’d put between us. “This. We shouldn’t be doing it.”

I shook my head, not quite comprehending what she said. “Why not?”

Clutching her arms around her chest, Lex let out a hard breath. “We can’t go back there.”

I didn’t believe a word, but I had to take it at face value. Pushing her into something she wasn’t ready for wasn’t my style. And if we were to have a chance again, I didn’t want to jeopardise it by doing something stupid. “If that’s what you want.”

Her silence said more than anything. But I didn’t want to leave her. If nothing else happened, I was fine with it. I held my hands up and slipped them into my pockets. “My hands will come nowhere near you for the rest of the night.”

The corner of her mouth lifted. “That’s a shame.”

“Hey, you were the one who stopped me.” I paused for a beat. “And I get it, Lex. I really do. But you can’t blame me for trying.”

She relaxed back into her corner of the couch and reached for her drink. “I… I just need some time. Seeing you again, hearing everything you’ve been through recently… It’s a lot to process.”

“You got it.” If we were to be something again, I didn’t want to push too quickly and have either of us regret it. “I have one request, though.”

Lex tilted her head to one side. “What’s that?”

“Can I stay with you again tonight? I had the best sleep in Exeter, and I swear it was because I was with you.” Every word was true and I wasn’t above begging.

“Seriously?” Her face screwed up. “What will the others think?”

“Who says they have to know?” I patted the couch cushions. “I could just sleep here. Although that bed does look really comfy.” I gave her my best puppy dog eyes, knowing she wouldn’t be able to resist.

“Who am I to say no?”

CHAPTER12

Alexis

The soundof someone knocking loudly on my door woke me with a start. Expecting it to be the housekeeping team, I ignored it, hoping they would go away. But the knocking became more insistent, followed by the person announcing who they were.

“Lex, it’s Levi. Can I talk to you about Jordan?”

Immediately, I jerked upright, shaking Jordan awake. “Um, sure, give me a minute. I just got out of the shower,” I called.

“Thanks, Lex. I’ll wait here.”

“Whassup?” mumbled Jordan, rubbing his eyes. “Who’s there?”

“Levi’s at the door,” I hissed. “He wants to talk to me about you. And finding you in my bed is not what we need.”

Jordan shot out of bed and grabbed his clothes and boots. He looked around the room, head twisting wildly from side to side. “How the fuck am I going to get out without him seeing?”

“You’re not.” I shoved him into the bathroom. “Stay there and don’t make a sound.”

Grabbing a t-shirt and shorts, I pulled them on before going to the door and opening it. “Hey, Levi. Come in.”

The guitarist pushed past me and scanned the room, no doubt checking it out in comparison to his. At the same time, both of our eyes zeroed in on the same thing.

Jordan’s distinctive Rockfield Studios t-shirt discarded by the bed.

Fuck. Fuck. Fuck.

I’d have to style it out, pretend I hadn’t noticed it. Let Levi make assumptions.
