Sadly, she wasn’t wrong. Since the few rushed messages around the Reading date, we’d both been working and any free dates we had didn’t coincide.

“You never did tell me what it was like being on tour with Jordan.”

My phone pinged with a message, and instantly, my gaze went to the screen, although I didn’t miss Sadie rolling her eyes as I reached for it.

Theo: Make it 8 am in the morning. Gotta be somewhere else at nine.

Bang went my chance of a lie-in. Blowing out a breath, I typed out a response.

Alexis: Got it. I can tell you how Joey’s gig went tonight.

By the appreciative sounds coming from the performance area, it seemed like he was going down a storm. In theory, I should have been in there watching him, but I knew he didn’t need me babysitting him.

Putting the phone down on the bar again, I debated whether to turn the screen face down. Just in case Theo decided to change our plans again, I left it where I could see it and gave Sadie my full attention.

“Now, what were we talking about?”

“You… Jordan Bowie…”

I thought back to the last night of the tour, when we’d kissed again, how he’d hinted at us getting back together, and how I’d fled like a scared child. Having had some space away from him, I should have had time to sort out my thoughts and how I felt about him. While I couldn’t deny that the kisses we’d shared, the things he told me about his recent life, made me feel close to him this time around, I couldn’t see how we could be a couple a second time. He was back in the studio with the rest of Idol Rev, creating new music, and when they’d done that, he’d be back out on the road again. Theo had me booked out for months in advance, and I doubted our schedules would allow it. I allowed my head to rule my heart, the practical side of me winning out over the emotional one. Deep down, I still loved him and always would. We’d been through too much together to throw it all away. But I had to let go of any doubts and just… do it.

Sadie stared at me expectantly, as if I was about to drop the secret of eternal life on her.

Blowing out a breath, I gave her what she wanted. “We kissed.”

The squeal she let out was high enough for dogs to hear. “I knew it! You couldn’t be in such close proximity to him for that long withoutsomethinghappening. Are you back together again?”

I waved my hands around. “Do you see him here?”

She frowned. “You turned him down?”

“I… I haven’t made up my mind.” Saying the words out loud suddenly made everything seem real.

“But you want to get back with him?”

“It’s complicated.”

She rolled her eyes again. “It always is with you two. You had your doubts about going on the tour in the first place. It seems everything went okay. More than okay, and yet here you are placing roadblocks in the way. Seriously, Lex. You either want him or you don’t.”

My phone screen lit up with a message. Sadie went to grab it before I did, but I beat her to it.

For fuck’s sake, Theo. What now?

I glanced at the screen, expecting to see Theo’s latest update to our meeting tomorrow. The thought of meeting him at seven didn’t appeal one bit.

Jordan: I miss you.

The screen went blurry, and the next thing I knew, everything went black.

“It’s okay, I think she’s waking up.” A gentle male voice greeted my ears as I blinked and tried to focus.

“What happened?” I groaned, rubbing the back of my throbbing head. Struggling to sit up, I realised I was lying on the floor in a heap.

Strong hands helped me into a sitting position, resting against the bar. “You passed out. Has that happened before?”

I stared at the paramedic and shook my head, the movement making it hurt even more. “No.” Two bar staff shielded me from the prying eyes of passers-by, and embarrassment prickled across my skin.

Sadie crouched down beside me and grabbed my hand, squeezing it tightly. “Thank fuck you’re okay.”
