Alexis: Besides which, I don’t remember your cooking being up to much…
Jordan: Rude. I can always take back my offer.
Alexis: Please don’t! I need to see you tonight xx
The corner of my mouth quirked.
Jordan: Then I’ll see you at seven xx
For the next hour, I tidied my room and then tackled the living room. I didn’t want Lex to think we still lived in the same pigsty we did when we were at uni, even though, in all honesty, it wasn’t that different.
Jude and Robbie came in around half-six, having spent the afternoon in the studio, jamming. Even when we didn’t have anything lined up, the two of them would often be together cooking up something for the rhythm section. The majority of the time, Levi and I vetoed their suggestions because the vibe was a bit too heavy for the Idol Rev sound, but occasionally they came up with something worthwhile.
Jude’s head twisted from side to side as he took in the freshly vacuumed carpet and the coffee table with neatly piled magazines on it. “Am I in the right house?”
Robbie slumped down on the couch, placing his feet on the coffee table.
I slapped them away. “Oi, I’ve just cleaned that.”
“Who made you Mrs Hinch?”
I was surprised he knew who she was given the state of his room. “Lex is coming over for dinner tonight.”
“Is that what that smell is?”
Despite having the window open and spraying air freshener in the kitchen, the lingering aroma of burnt onion and tomato still stayed.
“I was trying to make a Bolognese, but it didn’t go to plan. So we’re having takeaway instead.”
“Does that mean we’re invited?” asked Robbie. “And it’s not some romantic meal we’re crashing?”
Levi appeared in the living room. “I think we’re going to be playing gooseberry, but I’m sure Jordan will remember to keep the sex noise down.”
I tossed a cleaning cloth in his direction, watching as it floated harmlessly onto the carpet having gone about a foot across the room. “Didn’t I tell you earlier you weren’t funny?”
He rolled his eyes. “It’s great that you two are back together. Lex is good for you.”
I didn’t disagree with him. I was definitely a better person when she was around.
But I didn’t like the thought of being without her for the next couple of weeks. Even though I knew she’d be in the country, only a few hours down the road, the figure of Arlo Carmichael loomed large. I knew of his reputation. Hell, we were both front men in rock bands so I got to know exactly what would go on in his head. The fierce need to protect Lex burned strongly inside me.
The doorbell ringing brought me out of my head. If I stayed there too long, things would get messy, and I wanted the evening to be fun, a pleasant distraction from what was about to happen.
Levi answered the door, and I could hear him and Lex exchanging pleasantries before they came into the living room.
When I saw Lex, my dick twitched. She wore a simple flowered wraparound dress that clung to her every curve, cut low at the front to show off the necklace I’d bought for her, a short denim jacket, and Converse. Every thought of dinner went from my mind. All I wanted to do was get her upstairs and out of that dress.
She moved towards me, holding out a bottle of wine which I took and placed on the table. I grasped her wrist and pulled her close to me, nuzzling the side of her neck, her intoxicating perfume tickling my nostrils.
“You look incredible,” I whispered, one hand caressing her arse.
The wolf whistles and heckling that came from Levi, Jude, and Robbie started almost immediately.
“What’s green and prickly?”
“Seriously, Jordan, put her down.”
“Get a room!”
