Jesse is Mrs. Olive’s great granddaughter. Her mother is a friend of mine but she isn’t at home.

“Hey baby Jesse,” I smile, playing with her curly hair and she giggles.

“Jesse just a mek har steps, a weh day mi see she mek har first step and har father video it,” Mrs. Olive tells me.

“That’s good,” I smile looking at Jesse. She sits down, still holding my legs.

“She’s getting so big,” mommy beams and I nod, playing with Jesse’s tiny hands.

I look over at Gavin’s house next door and I spot Aunt Marcia. Dem reach already?

I smile at Jesse. “Mi a look fi my cousins now so later.”

She’s just staring at me with a smile. So sweet. I wave to her. “Ta Taa,” I smile and she starts creeping towards me. Mrs. Olive and my grandmother are looking.

My mother laughs. “She nah mek yuh lef enuh,”

“Ta Taa,” I say again moving towards the gate and her lips start trembling. Aww. “You don’t want me to leave you?” I say to the baby.

“Yea, a just because of school and them thing deh,” I say to them. I lift her and she giggles causing everyone to laugh.

“So you gwaan?” I gently pinch her cheeks and her smile grows.

“Alright come mek wi par,” I move outside with her and the cold breeze hits me reminding me that it’s getting late.

“Give me a blanket for her,” I say and Mrs. Olive quickly walks inside. I smile at Jesse in my arms waiting for her grandma to come back with her blanket.

“Zara she love baby,” Mama laughs looking at my mom. “A same way she treat Vicky grand daughter enuh.”

“Because them so cute,” I chime in.

Mommy laughs. “Babies nice fi real.”

“I want my baby when I’m 26 when I know that I’m financially stable. hopefully,” I tell them.

“A when mi a 21 mi have you enuh,” my mother tells me and Mrs. Olive walks out, wrapping the blanket around Jesse.

I smile at Jesse, using my hand to hold her hands and wave it. “Say Ta Taa,” I say to her and she smiles looking at her fingers.

“Alright nuh take too long,” Mrs. Olive says and I nod. I walk over to Gavin’s house and his mom is laughing loudly on the veranda.

“Yuh nuh undastan? Doh falla dutty instagram people... do not falla dem, half a dem dunce like bat and have gadgets a control them, iz dem phone control dem,” I hear Shebada’s voice and I laugh to myself. I guess she deh pon him live.

“Good night,” I smile and she chuckles.

“Wah’m Zara,” She greets before she looks back at her phone. I walk inside and hear them laughing.

“You... is a dutty drancro!” Gavin exclaims. I know he’s laughing about something because of his tone.

“Wah mi do? Mi tell yuh seh it can wear,” Sash laughs.

“Today a when? Oh yeah, Octoba 23. Today mi see seh you gyal nuh love mi,” he continues.

I push the door and they both look at me startled. As soon as Gavin realize it’s me he shows me a green pants, throwing it down in front of me.
