“I love it,” she finally says. My deep chuckle fills her room.

“Mi know mon mi just wah hear yuh say it,” I say before I open the door and she walks out, just in time to see her cousins coming. Bay noise dem a mek yow. Muss siren them be.

“Watch the dolly!” Sash exclaims and I sigh. Zara laughs and walk over to them.

“Top a the mawning Aunty Michelle and Mama!” Gavin says as he walks in. He spots me. “Top a the mawning Nickoi... Top a the mawning Zara!” his tone high pitched.

“Morning,” I simply say.

“Raatid a over yah yuh sleep?” Sash questions, looking at me. Nuff like.

I look over at Gavin, ignoring her. “Wah show you a pree,” I say to him quietly and he makes his way over to me.

“Weh yuh say?” he asks.

“Mi want yuh help with sup’m fi Zara but nuh say nutt’n to har,” I repeat and he looks surprised.

“Okay,” Gavin nods. Zara is busy talking with Mama at the door. So she nah hear a thing.

“Likkle more when mi fawud back yasso,” I tell him and he nods.

Zara looks at me with a smile.

She gestures her hand, calling me. “Come on,” she says and I walk out behind her. My gaze drops to her perfect ass. The view. I bite my lip.

When we get in the car I put on my seatbelt and look over at her. She starts giggling and I stare at her with lustful eyes, though my face expression seems cold and emotionless.

“You a laugh?” my voice comes out deeper than usual.

“Yes,” she says as she puts on the seatbelt. The last experience I had with that wasn’t pretty. Well, it didn’t happen in my car but it happened to someone I cared

about.

“Your face expressions are iconic,” she laughs and I push the start button.

I chuckle to myself as I pull off, heading towards the supermarket. Her phone rings and I notice that she doesn’t answer. I ignore it and continue to focus on the road. Hmm. It rings again. I switch my hand, tapping my waist because I notice a silver Corolla making my turns. I start driving a little slow to see if the car will overtake me but it doesn’t. Mi nuh trust dat ...

I look at my rear view occasionally at that silver car behind me. Zara’s phone rings again and she declines the call. I remain silent as I drive, wondering what my next move should be. Mi nuh feel like drop Zara off enuh because mi cya afford fi nutt’n happ’m to har. Then at the same time mi nuh want har in a the car if sup’m fi go off. I sigh. Her phone rings again and I know for sure that something is wrong. People only call that much when it’s urgent. But why isn’t she answering? Maybe she’s avoiding the person who’s calling her. Dem a call constantly in hopes that it might annoy her and she’ll give up and answer. That’s the feeling I’m getting but that a nuh my problem. The car behind me while Zara is in the car is my problem. Usually me would a just burst dem tire in order fi dem stop and nuh care but tru I have Zara in the car I don’t want to do anything crazy. I look in my rear view and the car turns off. Still nuh trust that.

“Why yuh keep calling me?” Zara finally answers the call. See, mi did right. It’s someone that she’s trying to avoid. She hisses and hangs up.

I keep my eyes on the road, still looking at my rear view now and then. I don’t see anything strange. She looks at me. “You okay?”

“Yea,” I retort. “You?”

“Yea just my ex was calling,” she says softly. Mi never expect fi hear that. Who is he? Nah go ask that though.

“Oh,” I say before I start thinking. “When last you talk to him?” I ask curiously.

“Good while,” she answers. Her eyes are fixed outside with her palm against her jaw.

“Ah,” I say before I pullover at the supermarket. Mi still have a feeling say sup’m nuh right but mi rather if she nuh in a the car. Who a guh protect har when yuh lef har?

“Nickoi you doh look alright,” she says looking at me.

Mi nuh like when things just sudden enuh, me like fi can think. But a nuh all the time things a go set up so.

“Mi a go make Suzanne come here with you... she nuh deh far,” I say and she raise her brows.
