“Okay ready to sing the birthday song. We’ll start after three...1, 2, 3!” mommy announces and the chorus starts.

I hold Nickoi’s hand. As the melody fades, I glance at him, sensing his discontent. “Put that behind yuh,” I murmur softly, yet he remains unresponsive. Yuh get the man upset bout you a go lef him over a simple thing.

He looks at the crowd, placing his hand on top of mine and drags the knife through the black Chanel cake, cutting the heart in perfect halves. Everyone shouts in cheer when he cuts a piece of the cake and feeds it to me, I smile. Once we’re done, he heads outside and I sit at the side by myself watching everyone vibing and talking.

“Yuh ready fi food?” Gavin asks and I nod. He holds me, sensing the weight of my silence.

“The tension did up deh enuh a wah happ’m?” he questions.

“We just have a disagreement,” I lie.

“When yuh go home you need fi gi mi the details,” he says and I laugh.

“Good evening again everyone I know you’re enjoying yourself and thing but I’m just telling you guys that food is available so come by the patio,” my grandma says over the mic.

“See the nice part yah,” Gavin grins and I walk with him.

After we’re done eating I’m stuffed. I ate fish, jerk chicken, fried chicken, cake and I drank another cocktail with Gavin and Sash. Nickoi came in with his friends and I assume they ate on the outside where they were having their conversation, but as they say, all good things must come to an end. The party is now over and we are putting everything back together.

“Mommy we nah close up the people dem house?” I ask because everybody a act like them nah go back home.

Mommy and Mama laugh. “A wi new house this enuh Zara,” I stare at them with my brows raised. What?

“This a we new house?” I gasp and she nods. “Since when?”

“Since yuh boyfriend buy it,” she beams.

. .

“Mi did a go buy a house and Nickoi pay fi everything... that bwoy spend more than thirty million pon this party enuh cas this house was 25 million,” my mother

says in a low tone. She a guh ask weh him work. “Weh him a get money from?” See the same thing.

“Him have a business,” I say surprising her.

She never expect fi hear that.

And mi think yuh would a chat out wah him really do.

“Wow what kind of business?” She questions.

“A car mart,” I say.

“Oh make sense cause me a say no mon this bwoy spend heavy,” she grins.

Then after a while I got outside and notice that everyone’s gone. They bid their farewells, but I didn’t know they’d leave at once. I look around and spot Sash going inside from the back and I walk out towards Nickoi’s car, he’s inside. I pull the door getting in beside him. He’s on his phone.

“Yuh just eva in a that, a wah yuh always a do in a it?” I tease with an attitude. He doesn’t say anything. Lord have Mercy pan dah likkle gyal yah.

“Anyways... I’m sorry if I came off aggressive earlier.” He stays quiet. “Nickoi?” I press and he looks away from his phone with a straight face.

“That Gov,” he drops his eyes back to his phone.

I stare at him for a while. I don’t know why, but when he has a straight face it turns me on. I smirk, putting my hand on his lap. He ignores me. Blame it on the alcohol. I climb over on him, taking his phone from him. His stare cold and steady, with his signature straight face.

“Mi a go see how long you a go have that face for,” I say turning off his phone. He looks at me astonished. So easy huh? I put my hand under his chin and he raises his brow. I pull up my dress, and start grinding on him, making him smile. He can’t even be mad at me for too long. You’re his weakness girl.. Plus the liquor a mek yuh act wild.

His teeth graze my lip, but he never bites. Never gives in, pressing against the steering wheel, I feel his breath on my neck—hot, slow. His lips hover, barely there, trailing lower. Close. Too close. Ugh. Kiss mi nuhhh! The tease a kill me! He holds my gaze, eyes dark, sending chills down my spine before crashing his lips against mine. His hand glides up my thigh, slow but firm. His tongue teases my lip, and the second I part them, he claims my mouth, deep and demanding. Damn. I put my hand around his neck like he’d do me, grinding on him. He groans, and I start licking his ear as I find his belt. I feel his hand pushing my straps aside, his lips hot against my shoulder, sucking slowly. I manage to pull the Ferrogamo buckle and move back a little, accidentally pressing the car’s horn. I shift away, startled. Jesus! I find myself laughing.Doh eva touch back alcohol.
