“Zara,” Nickoi shakes me and I open my eyes.

“Yes,” I say looking around and realize that we’re in Jamaica. “We reach,” I simply say and he smiles at my grogginess.

Nickoi and I get in the Range Rover, after putting the stuff in the trunk. Then he pulls off, heading home.

“It feels good to be back here but I miss Hawaii,” I pout, feeling a twinge of nostalgia. Nickoi’s smile graces my peripheral vision.

“Another time Mami,” his lips curls into a smirk.

“I love you. My birthday weekend was great,” I let out a sigh, casting a glance his way. “Thanks for everything.”

He nods, a smile lighting his face. “It’s the least I can do.”

The least?

The dismissal bell rings and I walk out and spot Jordane on the corridor with his friend but I can’t see his friend’s face because he covers it with a black kerchief. Just like a cruff.

“Hey Ms. Williams,” Jordane smiles at me and I stop walking.

“Hey Jordane, you a behave yourself now?” I ask him. Watch him a smile.

“Yea,” he avoids my stare.

“Okay mek sure enuh,” I say to him before I walk down the stairs. My phone rings and it’s my professor, surprising me.

“Hello?” I say as soon as I slide the screen.

“Good Afternoon Ms. Williams, how are you today?” she questions.

“I’m good, thanks. How about you?” I’m inching toward the gate.

“You know I’m doing fine. I’m just calling to let you know that starting tomorrow you’ll come back to school cause you’ve completed your practicum,” Thank Goddd!

“Okay miss,” I can’t wait to tell Mommy this, and Mama too of course.

“And I already spoke to Mrs. Adams,” she adds. “So you don’t have to worry about telling them. You’ll be preparing for your final exams that will be starting November 6.” I freeze. What!?
