She must’ve realized that I was startled because she starts apologizing. “I’m sorry for the short notice but we are really running out of time and we want to get this over with before it’s time for the Graduation December 4th,” she says. Jesus woman and har bombshells them.
“I understand,” I lie.
Mi nuh understand how them know wi phone number and wi socials and dem nuh text we and mek we know fi prepare for final exams which is basically three days from now. Jesus mi cya bother. The Graduation is not so bad because I’ll have enough time to prepare but the exams just sudden so!? A final exam enuh a nuh no regular exam. Pftttt.
“Okay see you tomorrow at 7,” she hangs up. Mi nuh think mi ever upset so in a while. When I get outside I spot Nickoi’s car and climb in.
“Evening,” I greet, noticing his silence.
“Yuh never say evening just so,” Nickoi speculates. “Mi know sup’m do yuh... talk to me.”
“Today is Tuesday and my professor a tell me say mi have final exam November 6 basically a Friday enuh... just three days from now,” I complain.
“Really?” his brow furrows.
“And this is not just ANY exam I have to get certain passes,” I whine.
“B you can do this mon,” Nickoi assures me. Mi love the way how Nickoi supportive...but him nah be realistic right now.
“Mi only have til Friday fi prepare and that nuh enough,” I pout.
“And yuh have me B,” his words sweet, making me smile.
“Mi o’ help yuh prepare fi it.”
Awwww. My smile grows. “You?” my eyes pop wide. His chuckle fills the car.
“Wah yuh do, think mi cya dweet?” he asks, focusing on the road.
“Mi never say that... you just don’t strike me as someone who would want to study with me,” I admit.
“Wah mi strike yuh as?” he raises his brows and shifts his attention back to the road.
“It’s like.. which bad man a go wah help them girlfriend prepare fi exam?” I ask and he smiles. He face palms himself.
“Yuh different enuh Zara,” he chuckles. “It nuh have nutt’n fi do wid bad man... we in this together enuh so if yuh fall short mi a go be there fi you, yuh zimi,” his words soothing.
“I love you,” I snuggle into him and inhale his Creed.
“I love you more,” he says and I start blushing again. Mi a the only person know this normal side of Nickoi.
Me know it too, my subconscious chimes in.
“No me love you more,” I start and he shakes his head.
“Mi love yuh more,” Nickoi insists and we continue to go back on forth about who loves who more. Nickoi got tired of me after a while and I ended with the last words.
“A so it fi go... me get the last words,” I smile and he hiss playfully.
After a while of driving we turn on our street and spot a police car at our gate, surprising me. I look over at Nickoi and he seems calm.
“Stay in the car,” he instructs before he gets out. I watch intently as he walks over to the female officer.
NICKOI
“Well, well, well... look who’s here,” she smirks and I stare at her, not saying a word.
“Yuh just stop call me and move on to a next girl a suh you do things?” She asks and I know it’s because she spots Zara in the car.
