“How would you feel if it’s true?” I ask and he takes a few seconds to answer.
“Mi know it’s true.” His stare is piercing, unreadable. I can’t tell if he’s angry, shocked, or something else entirely.
I sigh, holding out the test. “See it deh. I am pregnant.” He just stares. The silence stretches, and my chest tightens. I find myself getting anxious, shifting on my feet. Say something.
.
“Say sup’m nuh please,” I tilt my head towards my shoulder.
He keeps looking at me, then bites his lip, like he’s trying to hide his smile. Awww. I start smiling too, and before I know it, he pulls me into a hug, lifting me onto the vanity. His lips find my neck, trailing slow kisses before he pulls back to look at me.
“Yuh really a mek mi be a father, Zara?” his voice is low, still laced with shock.
I nod with a smile. He chuckles.
“Honestly... mi think yuh did upset..” I trail off.
“I was... mi cut up at first... but a you. You a di exception. You a Thee Zara,” he says making me laugh. “Mi feel like mi just get a new purpose. Sup’m me never know say mi need, God will understand wah mi mean.”
