He curses loudly. The guttural sound of the words flips a switch in me, and I find myself releasing all over him. He groans, collapsing on top of me, sweat dripping down his face. We’re both glistening, breath heavy in the air. I lick my lips, struggling to catch my breath, then he speaks, breathing hard.

“A lady in the streets, and a freak in the sheets fi real.” he smirks, impressed. I smile back.

“Doh Ms. Williams?” he teases purposely using my surname to refer to my profession. I blush. “Can’t find the words enuh Zara... ” he pants then he pulls me closer, closing the space between our naked bodies.

“Just kno’ yuh nah lef yasso. Yuh stuck with man fi life.”

Zara

I open my eyes when I hear my phone ringing. I move my hand sleepily around the bed, searching for my phone. The room is a little dark, making it hard for me to find it.

Mi hope yuh know say a Mama a call. Mi know mon.

I push up my body and an unfamiliar pain shoots through me. My face flushes as I get flashbacks of what we did last night. I move the comforter and Nickoi stirs. He’s still sleeping. Mi not even a hear the phone again. I attempt to get off the bed so I can turn the light on, and it rings again.

Mama mean business when she say she a wake you enuh.

I find it at the bottom of the bed. “Mama?” I slowly get off the bed and wince. My leg aches.

“Good morning, Zara a almost 6 o’ clock and yuh woulda dead if you would a answer the phone,” I laugh awkwardly once she says that.

A tired she tired out Mama, my subconscious jokes.

I smile to myself. “I’m gonna have to hurry,” I switch the light on.

“Yes, yuh betta,” she says. I can tell she’s eating. Mama eva’ a eat early.

“What you eating?” I ask, breath catching as my eyes lock with Nickoi’s. He’s staring at my naked body, locked in a trance, his gaze low—almost as if he’s glaring. But I know better. That’s just how he is.

My face flushes. His eyes then move from my lower body to my face, lip tucked between his teeth. Watch him...

I start feeling uneasy, maybe because I’m typically so shy and I behaved so wildly last night. Well, now it’s time to face it.

“You hearing me Zara?” Mama asks. Shoot, what did she say?

“Um... yeah,” I tell her.

“Zara... you seem distracted, get ready for work and then you call mi,” she says before she hangs up.

I meet his stare again. He props up on his elbow, with the sexiest expression on his face. “What?” I blush.

“A you me a meds,” his voice raspy.

“What exactly?” I ask, opening my bag. Just to avoid his stare.

“Nothing much. Just that you surprise me,” he says before he takes up his phone. I surprised myself too. This is so awkward.

“Mi have some things fi deal with today so mi a leave early,” he rolls off the bed and pull on his Ralph Lauren underwear, then picks up his phone again.

I narrow my eyes at him. Why do I get a feeling that he’s lying? What is he dealing with? It seems like ‘mi a go deal wid business’ is his go–to lie.

“What?” I look at him. “I know that it’s drugs... but what exactly you doing today? You a go deliver drugs? What?” I ask a little irritated.

He’s caught off guard by my questions. “Why yuh nuh relax?” he asks me. Hmm, looks like him never really have nutt’n in mind.

“Nickoi from we deh,” I stand up. “Yuh ever lie to me about anything? And nuh bother lie to me, just be honest.” he drops his gaze and smiles. Red flag, yeah. But after that kind of sex? Hell, who’s looking at flags? I know I’m not.
