I hopped up and grabbed my clothes before heading back into the kitchen to grab my phone from the kitchen counter. Just like I thought, Soleil was checking in and making sure I was still alive.

“Oh shit, look outside,” Kareem announced before I could answer her call.

He was standing at the patio door. It was pouring again, and the trees were swaying back and forth so fast because of the intense wind.

“Damn. So much for getting out of the house right away.”

He walked up behind me. “It’s a good thing you still need to make breakfast.”

“You lucky I’m hungry, too, because I told you I’m not your maid,” I replied, pushing at his chest.

My phone vibrated again.

“Is that your sister?” he quizzed with the mixing bowl in his hand. He rested his chin on my shoulder.

“Yup. I just texted her to tell her I was fine and was about to get in the shower. I’ll call her back once my phone is at a hundred percent.”

“Do you think she believed you?”

“Hell no, but that’s all she’s getting for now.”

“Why is that?”

I turned to face him and wrapped my hands around his neck. “She wouldn’t understand this, . . . us. Besides, what happens in a hurricane stays in a hurricane.”

“Isn’t it supposed to be what happens in Vegas?—”

“Or hurricane,” I interjected.

“Yeah, I don’t think that’s how it works.”

“Do you need me to recreate what just happened to convince you?”

“Shit, I think that might help,” he replied with a smirk.

I loved being around Kareem. While I might not recommend sleeping with a stranger who broke into my house, I was sold on him and the ten-inch demolisher he had swinging between his thighs. After a round of oral sex and another half-hour fuck session, I was finally back in the kitchen to make us something to eat. I decided to kill two birds with one stone and call my sister back while I cooked.

“Oh my God! It’s about time you answered!” Soleil’s voice boomed into my ear as I cradled it between my shoulder and neck.

“I’m sorry. I told you I was getting in the shower. Plus, the power has been out all night, so I wanted to make sure my phone was charged to a hundred percent before I used it, just in case the power goes out again.”

Soleil smacked her lips. “Mmhm. Is everything okay there?”

“Yeah, everything is fine,” I answered, locking eyes with Kareem before he transitioned down the hall to the bathroom.

“You sure?”

“Yeah. Why?”

“I don’t know. There’s just something in your voice.”

“I’m good, forreal.”

“How’s Butta? I don’t hear him yipping in the background like normal.”

“He’s in my room right now, and—hold up, since when do you ask about Butta?”

“You're the one that said he’s my nephew, right? A bitch can’t ask about her nephew? Especially since that’s the only one I’ll probably ever have, seeing as that you’re married to your job.”
