But the second I shut my door, the leather sticking to the back of my thighs, and I heard the click of the lock, I shattered.

A sob tore from my chest so violent, I choked on it.

I’d been here before.Crying over a man with secrets in his pockets. But I’d promised myself this was different. That Villain saw me, not just a club girl with good curves and loyalty stitched into her bones.

And for a while, it felt true.

But now?

Now I was just another mistake he couldn’t fix.

Usually, in my sad state, a bottle of bourbon would be half gone by the time I curled up on my bed, blanket pulled to my chin like I could hide from the truth. But I couldn’t even drink.

I gazed at the ceiling. At the water stain that looked like a broken heart.Fitting.

My stomach flipped, but the baby.I hadn’t felt movement yet, but I’d read all the blogs. It made it harder to ignore what was happening inside me.

You’re not alone anymore.

That’s what the nurse had said at the clinic when I went for the checkup.

And damn it, she was right.

The knock came just before midnight.

I didn’t move.Just curled tighter into the sheets, ignoring the way my heart kicked against my ribs.

Another knock.This one louder.

“Rachel,” a voice called.

I flinched.

Not his voice.Not Villain.

It was Sweet Tea, one of the sweetbutts.Had two kids.Ran the kitchen at the clubhouse and knew everything before anyone said it out loud.

I opened the door with red eyes.

She didn’t flinch.Just walked in and handed me a paper bag from Royal Road.

“Fried pickles,” she said.“With hot ranch.”

I blinked.

“I figured you hadn’t eaten,” she added.

My stomach grumbled, and I hated her a little for being right.

We sat in silence, the bag rustling between us on my bed as I ate without shame.Grease on my fingers.Salt on my lips.

“I saw her,” Sweet Tea said finally.

I didn’t pretend not to know who she meant.

“She was standing outside the clubhouse earlier, talking to Rome.Crying.”

I paused.“Good.”
