I watch as Colton leads the girls upstairs, likely to the third floor that is off limits. Except for a select few people, such as myself, who Colton knows he can trust. This is his house, and he throws a ton of parties. People know the rules. He has a security system throughout the house and it alerts him any time someone goes up there. I’d let him know I would be up there, and of course he was fine with it. I stay at the bottom of the stairs, waiting for him to return.
“They good?” I ask.
“Yeah. The little one is drunk as fuck. The other one is fine, but I told them they could sleep it off.”
“And they just agreed?”
He smirks, leaning against the wall. “Little one did. Other one said she’ll stay awake.”
That sounds about right. I can’t imagine Sailor agreeing to sleep in a place like this. Unless I told her I knew what was going on and would watch her.
“So, that your girl, or what?” he asks.
“It’s complicated.”
He rolls his eyes. “Of course it is. You’re you.”
“Nah, not like that,” I say as we head through the kitchen. I grab another beer on the way to outside.
“Then like what?”
“Let’s just say… we’ve mutually agreed to play a very interesting game.”
His brow furrows, a small smile lingering on his lips. “Right.”
He drops into his chair, and I take up the one on the side of him, pulling out my phone.
Me:Are you good?
Little Dove:Yes. Thank you for that.
Me:How did you know it was me?
Little Dove:Who else would it be?
Me:Fair point. If you need to sleep, I’ll go sit in front of the door.
Little Dove:I’m okay. Not tired.
Me:If you change your mind, you know how to find me.
Little Dove:Thank you <3
A heart. A fucking heart. I blow out a breath and shove my phone into my pocket, then guzzle some beer. When I’m finished with it, I’m going up there whether Sailor likes it or not.
Chapter Forty-Nine
Sailor
“Are you sure you’re feeling okay?” I ask as we sit at a table in the corner of the campus cafe.
“Yes, stop asking,” Amelia complains.
“Sorry,” I mutter, taking the top off my tea to let it cool down. “I’ve just never seen someone so drunk before.”
Amelia rolls her eyes. “That’s really sad, Sailor. You need to go out more.”
I frown as I stare down at my tea.
