It’s what brings my attention to the tattoo beside it, and then I catch a glimpse of the one along the side of his head.
“You were outside of the library,” is what I say.
“Many times,” he adds.
I smile, ducking my head for a moment before bringing my gaze back to his. “I mean, it was you that I bumped into.”
His smile widens. “Guilty.”
“I’m not sure I’ll get used to this,” I say, grabbing my chai and taking a sip.
I don’t miss the way his gaze goes to my lips as I do, and when I pull away and lick them, his gaze stays.
He blinks, then flicks his eyes back to mine. “You didn’t answer my question.” My eyes narrow. “About being disappointed.”
I huff out a laugh. “Whatever the opposite of disappointed is, that’s what I am.” He grins, and it’s the most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen. “But I’m sure you expected that.”
“What does that mean?” he asks.
“Oh, come on. You know you’re hot.”
“Maybe.” He shrugs. “But all that matters is what you think.”
My cheeks burn and I duck my head again, but this time he reaches across the small table and grabs my chin, forcing me to look at him.
“I like when you look at me,” he says with such intensity. “I like that I can look at you like this now, with nothing in the way. I like that I can see you seeing me, that you like what you’re looking at.”
“I do,” I say, the words coming out a whisper.
His thumb brushes across my skin, and I suck in a breath.
How can someone be so damn hot?
He hums a sound of approval. “Now’s when I tell you that I meant what I said.” My stomach floods with warmth. “You’re mine. I’m yours. Nothing changes now that you’ve seen my face.”
Chapter Fifty-Seven
Sailor
I pull into my driveway, and before getting out, I grab my cell to send Jaxon a text.
I’m still vibrating over our encounter.
I can’t believe I finally know who he is, that I’ve finally seen his face, and nothing has changed.
Seeing him… knowing what he looks like, how freaking hot he is, and that he still wants me? It’s crazy. Unbelievable.
Me:I wish I would have invited you back with me.
I smile to myself as I shut off the car, and my phone buzzes so I check it before getting out.
JT:Good thing I’m right around the corner.
I suck in a breath, glancing in my rear-view mirror. I shouldn’t be surprised by this, and I guess I’m not. I’m more excited than anything. My heart starts pounding again. He may actually be the cause of a heart attack.
A moment passes before I spot headlights. A car turns into my driveway, right behind mine, blinding me so I have to look away. They shut off, and in my side mirror, I watch as the car door opens, and Jaxon gets out. I can just barely make him out in the dark, but at this point, I know him better that way.
My door opens, and he stands there, offering me his hand. I take it, and he helps me out like a gentleman would, but he is no gentleman.
