I’m half turned on as I imagine the smallest towel possible barely covering her delicious curves and angry that Preston might have seen her. The irony isn’t lost on me that I just jerked off in the shower at the thought of her lips wrapped around me before she climbed on top of me to seek her pleasure.
I’m as sick as he is.
“Are you okay?”
I stop running my hands through my hair and meet her eyes, failing miserably at feigning nonchalance. My jaw clenches a few times before I can get the words out—no way does she need to be aware of what went down.
“Yeah, I was only wondering as I wouldn’t normally leave my charge alone. Knowing you were in the bath with just one person outside your room makes me a little stressed, is all.”
“Well, considering it was my dad who summoned you, I think your job is safe.”
I flinch at her tone, “No, that’s not wha?—”
She cuts me off. “Don’t worry, I changed in the bathroom and locked the door. Stayed away from the windows like an obedient child.”
She goes to stand, ready to walk away from me, not that there’s anywhere for her to go given that she’s stuck here. I don’t want her to leave so I reach under the table and place my hands on her knees, keeping her in place.
“Get your hands off of me.”
“No.”
Her eyes meet mine, anger and fear swirling through them at my denial. I need to explain my thoughts to her since she’s misinterpreted my questions. I hate the distress I’m causing her.
“Davina, let me explain, queaso,please.”
She stays completely still and gives me a slight nod, encouraging me to speak. I keep my hands on her under the table my grip firm but not painful as I slowly massage her thighs. I watch her bite her lip, clearly enjoying the sensation but fighting it.
“I wasn’t asking you for my sake—well, not in that way. I was worried about your safety, and I feel bad about how I spoke to you before I left. I shouldn’t have barked orders at you like that and it was unfair for me to take my worries out on you. I’m sorry.”
I don’t tell her that I’m relieved that fucker I killed didn’t see anything else, I shudder at the thought of what he could have been watching. I study her face as it changes from anger to confusion until it finally settles on embarrassment.
“Apology accepted. I’m sorry too. For assuming. That wasn’t fair on you.”
I squeeze her thighs before letting go and picking up the last bite of my cake.
“Nothing to apologise for but accepted all the same.”
We finish our cake and I clear our plates from the table. I can sense her eyes on me while she watches my every move. She’d tried to stand and help before I told her to stay put and enjoy her drink.
“What would you like to do today, love?”
She laughs without humour, “The same as yesterday, I’m not allowed to leave my room, remember? Besides, I only have books for company. I’m afraid your day will be filled with watching me read again.”
I say under my breath, “I’ve always loved watching you read.”
“Hmm?” she questions, a line forming between her brows.
“I said I love watching you read.”
I throw a wink at her with a smile that will have her flushed. Satisfaction rolls through me when I see pink bloom over her cheeks.
“How about we go for a walk in the garden? Get some fresh air before you settle into another book?”
“Do you think you can get my father to agree?” She raises her brow in challenge.
“I wasn’t going to ask for permission, love. You’re an adult and I’m in charge of your safety. If I want to take you out of this room then I will,” I growl.
She stands abruptly and moves until she is right in front of me. All I can focus on is her hands on my bicep. Her hand on my naked skin sends tingles through my arm and I close my eyes to absorb the pleasure of her touch.
