“Sorry, love.”

I stand and grab the big fluffy blanket from where it was neatly folded over the edge of the sofa. I drape the soft fabric over her legs to ward off the chill, but not before committing the bare, pale skin to memory.

“Thank you.”

“Not sure you should be thanking me for sticking freezing cold ice packs on you. I’d probably cuss you out if it was me.”

I chuckle and she joins in. I feel the urge to lean in and capture those lips of hers, so I force myself to speak instead.

“So, while we slowly freeze you, what should we do?”

She considers her options for a second before answering, “Tell me a story?”

So I do. I launch into a crazy story from a previous job and how much of a pain in the ass the client was. Before long she is laughing and smiling and my heart soars. Especially when I tell her how I’d had to help the client after they were handcuffed to the bed on all fours, and I got a full view of his butthole.

We spend the rest of the morning like that and for once in my life, I am finally at peace.

Chapter 11

Flowers & Butterflies

Davina

We spend the morning laughing at the stories Blaze shares about previous clients.

He’s probably breaking every NDA he’s signed, but it feels so good to be openly happy and my stomach hurts from how hard I’ve laughed—that, and all the food we ate. It’s been a while since I’ve had a full stomach.

“Get yourself ready, love. We’re getting out of this room.” He must see the panic on my face again as he’s quick to clarify, “I’ve checked with Mr. Elodie, and he’s approved it.”

He reaches over and takes the ice packs from me, long since warmed from my skin. I watch his hands as he does, enjoying the way the tendons flex underneath the tattoos. Heat blooms under my skin, knowing he checked with my dad after I panicked earlier. I don’t know how to respond to the decency he’s showing me.

Girl, it’s the bare minimum.

I mentally chastise myself for letting something so trivial warm me, but when you’ve been deprived of it for so long, your standards get out of whack.

“What will we be doing? So I know what to wear.”

He smiles and I take it in just like I’ve been drinking in his shirtless form, stealing glances when he’s not looking. I’ve nearly gotten caught on a few occasions because his eyes are almost always on me too. The definition of his muscles is God-like, and I find myself drawn to the way they flex and move under his skin, almost like they’re hypnotising me into paying attention.

“It’s nothing exciting I’m afraid. Merely a walk around the grounds.”

He shrugs to emphasise that he thinks it won’t be exciting. It’s my turn to beam at him and I have the insane urge to launch myself into his arms, hugging him tight. I fight the impulse and settle on gripping his forearm, the heat of his skin sinking into my own.

“That sounds incredible.”

“You don’t have to pretend, Mea Divina.” He sighs.

“I’m not, I promise. I don’t get to go outside much when I’m home these days.”

His eyes stay on my hand that’s resting on his forearm. Not wanting to make him uncomfortable, I unwrap my fingers to stop touching him. The confidence to do it in the first place leaves my body, but before I can fully sever contact his other hand closes over the top of mine. Blaze holds my hand in place as he strokes the top of it with the pad of his thumb. I subconsciously squeeze his arm in response, and he chuckles lightly.

“Then let me make it the best walk you’ve ever had.”

After getting showered, I dress in my favourite comfy outfit. I throw on baggy jeans, an oversized sweatshirt with myfavourite book quote, and some Converse. I hope the outfit will keep me warm enough in the cooling autumn air.

I enter the bedroom, closing the bathroom doors behind me to find Blaze fully dressed in his all-black gear. His attention moves from his phone to me, running a hand through his waves while assessing me from head to toe.

I want to run my hands through his hair.
