He opens his eyes and finds mine. I can see the tears building in them and my heart skips a beat at the sight. One lone tear spills over and down his cheek and I cannot stand it. I brush it away with the pad of my thumb and press a kiss to where it fell. He takes another shuddering breath and rests his forehead against mine.

“I’m okay, Blaze.”

“You’re okay,” He whispers, like it’s more to convince himself than me. I close the little bit of distance between us and press a light kiss to his lips, and he sighs.

I wish I could spend the rest of the time we have kissing him, convincing him that I’m okay, but we don’t have that luxury.

Our time has run out. So, we move out of each other’s embrace with one last squeeze of our hands and continue our preparations. The hours tick by until we’re ready to exact our revenge.

I’m coming for you, Daddy.

Chapter 28

Until the Earth Stops Turning

Blaze

We stop a few miles out from her house.

I pull into a dirt track, killing the engine. My fingers hold the steering wheel with a white-knuckled grip that makes the leather squeak. I stare out the window with a frown marring the skin between my eyebrows, teeth clenching with each tick of my jaw.

This is a fucking bad idea.

Surprise and irritation lance through me at the thought. This is everything I’ve worked for, and I should be buzzing with the adrenaline now that I’ve got the chance to destroy this fucker’s life. My mind should be laser-focused on the task ahead, but something is telling me this is a mistake that I might live to regret.

“Hey, what’s wrong? Talk to me, Blaze.”

I hear Davina’s words bounce around the silent cabin of the truck, but I can’t look at her. She is part of the pain I’m about to rain down on her father. I want nothing more than to turn around and take her as far away as possible and pretend this shit never happened.

So I don’t move, hoping it delays us enough to be forced to turn my truck around. She reaches out to me and places herhand on my arm. A shock of electricity shoots through me at her touch.

She smooths her hand over mine to loosen my grip on the wheel. I relent and let her take my hand, bringing it to her lap and tracing swirls into my palm. I let out a loose breath—she knows just how to calm me down.

“If you don’t want to do this, Blaze then we can turn around now. I won’t beg you to continue with the plan. My father has already made you lose so much.”

Davina’s gentle voice floats in the silence as she waits for me to find my voice. I believe her that she won’t put up a fight or try and convince me to do this if I don’t want to. That only makes me fall in love with her a little bit more.

I remove my other hand from the wheel and turn in my seat until I’m facing her, placing my free hand under her chin. The bruises on her neck make me wince, knowing it’s my hands that formed them.

“He made you lose so much more, Mea Divina.” I swallow the lump that forms in my throat at all he’s done to her. “We’ll do this together, you and me. We will rise from the ashes he created and become the monsters he compelled us to be. Let’s fuckingterrorisehim,” I growl.

I crush my lips to hers and she gasps. It’s not a soft kiss, it’s rough and angry. I put every emotion I’m feeling into it, letting the taste of her take me over until I can breathe again. She grips my shirt, keeping me close like she can’t get enough.

Our tongues tangle and the soft noises tumble through the air. Her moans go straight to my cock, and it takes everything in me not to rip her clothes off and ravage her on the side of the road. We break apart, sucking air into our lungs as I rest my forehead on hers.

“Why did that feel like a goodbye?” She chokes on a sob.

“Not a goodbye, love. A promise. To get through this together and walk away so we can begin the rest of our lives making up for all the time we lost. I knew that day I sat with you in the library that you were mine, destined to ruin my life for the better.”

I kiss her forehead and pull back to take her in, to memorise the soft edges of her face, the light dusting of freckles over her nose. The warm liquid of her eyes and her now puffy and swollen lips. She does the same to me, taking her time to absorb this moment. I give her a soft smile and her eyes instantly fall to the dimple that I know is now showing. She leans forward and places a soft kiss on it.

“I love your dimples. I love your strength. I love yourheart.”

Her fingers lightly touch the places as she says them and finally rest over my heart as it pounds in my chest. The emotions inside me build in intensity as I wait to hear her next words.

“I love you, Blaze. I’ve loved you since you walked into my life all those years ago.”

Her eyes are locked on mine, and I can’t fight the happiness that bubbles up in my chest. Three little words that mean the world to me when they come from her.
