“You’re fucking crazy,” he barks out.

I throw my head back and laugh. “Oui, yes I am. I look forward to playing with that knife next time. See you soon, lover boy.”

I turn for the window with speed, not enough to raise his suspicions but quick enough for me to escape if he decides he’s no longer interested in empty threats. His blade or bullet won’t kill me, but there would be no getting around how I survived a bullet to the brain. The last time that happened someone got sectioned.

Oops.

“There won’t be a next time,Lilith.” He spits the name at me, but I grin at him. He totally gets the vibe I’m going for.

I blow him a kiss before sweeping over the edge of the window and dropping onto the fire escape. I hear his bare feet move across the room toward the window, but I’m gone before he can even put his head out for one last look at me.

He’s mine now, whether he likes it or not.

CHAPTER 9

Tease & C’s

RAI

Nico and I glance at each other before tipping our heads up at the towering building in front of us.

Latrotoxin Tower is the biggest skyscraper in little Paris. With its glittering black windows dominating the skyline, the entire thing looks ominous, like a black hole.

In the sense you enter without ever coming back out.

“This place gives me the creeps, princess. Why does it feel like your girl is about to trap us in her web so she can wrap us up and liquefy us?” I smack Nico on the back of the head. “Ow, what was that for?” he asks as he rubs at the sore spot.

“First of all, fuckhead, she’s not my girl. Second of all, it’s only a building. A tall, ominous building but that’s all.”

Neither feels like the truth but I won’t admit that. I haven’t told Nico about what happened last night, and I don’t think I ever will. It was a one-time thing that can never happen again. Never.

Lie.

I tamp down the lewd imagery of me on my knees before her and how she’d tasted, the way she swallowed my cum and licked up every single drop like she was starving for it. How she’dknown I was desperate to have someone else be in control, to not have to think about what to do or how to do it.

It was fucking incredible.

I’d felt like I was crawling out of my skin all day with everything that went down yesterday. Being switched on and ready to make hard decisions, keeping everyone in line, and seeing those poor souls treated like cattle took its toll.

Valeska had read me like a book.

“Dude, I could practically feel the sexual tension radiating off you two the other day. I was waiting for you to fuck right there on the concrete. Anyway, I know you’re just trying to play it cool right now about the vibes being off with this place for my sake, but it’s strange and you know it.”

I sigh. “Yeah, the vibes are off, I’ll give you that.”

I ignore the part about the sexual tension—he is so right and so wrong. I hadn’t known then if I wanted to fuck her or fight her, though something tells me I wouldn’t win if it were the latter. It was cruel how I used a moment of vulnerability to discard her like trash, but I’d hummed with a violence that took control.

Something is wrong with me.

Nico’s also right about me downplaying how this building is setting off alarm bells in my head. He hates anything creepy—he will never watch a horror movie because he is terrified it will bring bad energy into his life. He swears he’s a psychic. His words were ‘I don’t want to be démon dinner’ and that was it.

“Well, let’s get this over with, princess.” Nico grins at me.

We head over to the entrance where security is monitoring the doors. There’s a line of patrons behind the red rope, waiting to be let into the nightclub here called Screamers. I roll my eyes at the name. They’re all scantily clad in material that barely qualifies as clothes, some of them in nothing but underwear, hoping they’ll get let in by some miracle.

This place has a reputation for being nearly impossible to be put on the access list; the owner is particular about who they let in, and rumour on the street is that even the most affluent people have been denied.

I don’t know much about the owner, only that everyone refers to her as Lilith. That name instantly has me hard as I think about how Valeska looked in the moonlight when I’d called her that. I’d expected her rage but instead she’d grinned.
