He loved cooking for everyone, seeing them enjoy it. Even I loved it, which made Liam happy since I was finally putting some weight back on. Pushing off the edge, I moved to the windows to stare out over the gorgeous view of the mountains. It was hard to look at them in the same way after everything, but I refused to let that evil taint the beauty before me.
Voices out front had me moving to the main room and out on to the wraparound porch. Langston stormed down the street barking orders to someone on his cell, no doubt West because there was no way he’d use that tone with his other partner. We all knew that tone sounded rude and demanding, but the big guy used it to mask the worry and fear riding him.
“Everything okay?” I called out, making him pause.
He nodded and dropped the phone from his ear. “GG got out again, that fucker.”
Smiling, I shook my head. “Well, if you need any help finding him or if you need me after you do, let me know. The guys will be here shortly.”
With a nod and “Thanks,” Langston hurried down the road. Going back into the house, I gave in to the urge to take another peek at our bedroom. The room was massive; a huge empty bedframe sat in the middle of the room and a comfortable looking chair already sat in the corner by the bay window.
My gaze slid to the unframed door that led to the nearly finished bathroom. It took longer than expected because of all the tile needed for the extra-large shower, and it took forever for the massive, four-person bathtub to be delivered.
We had to go with a four-person one since one of my guys was the size of two men.
Shaking my head, I turned, sucking in a breath at finding Liam standing in the doorway watching me. His serene smile grew as he marched over and pulled me into his strong arms. Acontent sigh escaped as I melted against him, loving the wash of safety and love that flowed through me when I was in his arms.
“You didn’t sneak a peek yet, did you?” he asked into my hair as he kissed the crown.
Pulling back, I rested my chin on his chest and gazed up at him. “Nope, been checking out all the work you all have done in the parts of the house I’m allowed to see.”
“Good girl,” he said, placing a kiss on the tip of my nose. Releasing his hold, he stepped back but grabbed my hand, interlacing our fingers. “Come on. I’ll show you my secret project.”
“Should we wait for Memphis?” I asked, following him. Excitement sang through me, making my breathing choppy. I’d waited weeks to find out what was hidden behind door number four.
“I’m here.” I turned away from Liam leading me down the hall as Memphis stepped into the cabin. He brushed a few rogue hairs out of his eyes while toeing off his boots. “I wouldn’t miss this.”
“Should I be worried?” I asked with a nervous laugh.
Memphis only winked and grabbed my free hand, giving it a slight squeeze.
Nerves had my stomach rolling. Liam shot me an anxious expression as he twisted the doorknob and slowly opened the door. Dropping my hand, he placed his against my lower back urging me to go in first.
The moment he flicked on the lights, I sucked in a sharp breath and my fingers came up to cover my parted lips. I turned in a slow circle taking in the various pet beds, climbing trees, and was that a ball pit? A small door cut into the wall grabbed my attention, pulling me closer to see if my assumption was correct.
Yep. It was a tiny door that led outside. Big enough for an ermine.
One particular ermine.
I spun around, eyes wide and leaking happy tears.
“You made a room especially for BamBam?” I rasped, wiping at my wet cheeks.
Liam nodded. “BamBam and future woodland creatures you rescue?—”
“Kidnap,” Memphis said around a fake cough.
“Or others that you don’t want to leave at the clinic overnight or need to foster back to health to get them ready to be adopted. We can adjust the door if needed. I didn’t want to make it too big or?—”
I cleared the short distance between us and leapt. Thankfully with his quick reflexes, he caught me midair and held me tight. Legs wrapped around his waist and arms looped around his neck, I gazed up at his handsome face.
“Thank you,” I rasped around the unshed tears clogging my throat.
“Memphis helped too,” he said, scanning my face. “Do you like it?”
“Like it?” I scoffed. “I love it, I love you.” I flicked my gaze to where Memphis leaned against the doorframe with a content smile on his face. “And I love you. I cannot believe you did this.”
“Don’t you know by now, Little Bit? We’d do anything for you.”
