“Just down along the tree line, we can follow the split rail fence.”

“I’d like that.”

They held hands and walked away from the farmhouse, and she told him about her morning at the library. She hadn’t seen anything out of the ordinary or had any strange feelings that she was being watched. It had been a perfectly normal day and she’d enjoyed it.

She’d even found a book about folklore in the Rocky Mountains that had a legend about a moose with glowing antlers that used them to help light the way for lost hikers.

“That’s pretty cool,” he said.

They stopped when she saw a few deer in the woods, the sunlight highlighting the tawny color of their fur and making it look like gold.

“Now that’s neat,” she said.

They meandered along the fence, picking wildflowers and talking, and it was such a peaceful time together, Tatum never wanted it to end. When they’d returned to the house and checked on the animals, giving Daisy a few treats in the process, they met Zara in the storage barn.

“Hey, I have an idea,” Zara said. “How about a date-night in? We can make nachos and watch a rom-com.”

“That sounds fun,” Tatum said.

“We’re in,” Grey said.

“It’ll be good to do something fun like that, it’ll take our minds off of everything.”

“It was a good day today,” Tatum said. “And it’s a good way to end the evening.”

She helped Zara make a huge tray of nachos topped with seasoned ground beef, homemade salsa, and tons of cheese, and they settled in the family room with the guys for a double date.

Outside, Avi was on patrol while Ford rested for the night shift.

But inside? Tatum was so happy to be where she was.

It had been a normal, almost mundane day, and now she was sitting next to her soulmate with his arm around her while a rom-com played on the big flat screen. By the time the movie was finished, she felt even closer to him, and Mrs. Fielders’ words were swirling in her mind.

Grey was an amazing guy and she was lucky to be with him.

Crew and Zara wanted to binge-watch a few episodes of their favorite TV show, but Grey nudged Tatum and said, “Let’s go talk.”

She nodded and followed him out of the room after saying goodnight to their friends. When they reached the second floor she said, “I want you to stay with me tonight.”

“Oh,” he said with a grin. “I’d love to.”

They stepped into her room and as soon as the door clicked shut behind them, they tumbled into bed together, momentarily forgetting the outside world. In these four walls, it was just her and Grey. No dangerous alpha stallion, no trouble on the horizon.

Just a girl and her sexy guy, and the passion that made her whole body light up.

She didn’t have to tell him that she loved him tonight, but she was going to tell him soon, because she really did.

With her whole heart.

Sunday afternoon, Grey and Tatum were keeping an eye on Daisy in the pasture with the livestock. He’d almost told her he loved her a dozen times the night before while they’d been driving each other wild in bed, but he kept getting swept away in the passion. Then they’d fallen asleep, and he’d stayed with her all night, which was his very favorite thing to do.

It had been a perfect morning. No rushing around, no pressure for anything. Just the two of them enjoying the day. She’d helped him with the animals and then together they’d made a big lunch for the herd with the eggs they’d gathered, and it was the best time he’d ever had in the kitchen.

He couldn’t get enough of her.

He’d been waiting for the right moment to tell her he loved her and to talk about the herd’s mating ceremony, and right now, as she smiled at Daisy’s antics and the sunlight had highlighted the whole farm in a beautiful summer glow, he knew it was time.

He turned to look at her, his heart swelling with emotion and his stallion whinnying in happiness. “Sweetheart.”
