The man was paying ten thousand dollars for one hour with a hooker. How attractive could he be?

Ten thousand dollars, Luna.

She needed the money to stay hidden, to stay running.

“He is just through that door?” She pointed at it.

“Yes,” the blond man said, his voice deep and rumbly and again sounding curious and intrigued.

She nodded and walked on jerky legs as she approached the bedroom. The hallway felt especially long.

She was really going to do it. One hour of sex with a stranger.

Maybe it won’t be so bad.

She had not had sex since losing her virginity to Rohan in a not-super-pleasurable experience six years ago. Mama had warned her about wolves and about selfish lovers.

Maybe I can just close my eyes, spread my legs, and count to four thousand.

Taking in a shaky breath, Luna stopped just in front of the master bedroom’s door.

She knocked.

Chapter 2

Pacing back and forth in the bedroom, Daxton growled, impatient for the woman to show up so he could get back to matters thatmattered. He had suppressed his base, sexual urges as best he could over these past few months. Becoming king of the light shifters was stressful and required all of his attention. Even now the dark shifters, those ruled by the moon—werewolves, basilisks, vampires—threatened his rule. He had no time for women or courting or anything over the span of one hour.

However, he was an unmated dragon shifter in his early thirties. He had lasted as long as he could.

His cock ached for release. Even now, it throbbed with each of his strong heartbeats, confusing him. He had never felt suchtension. His father warned that being so pent up could cause a dragon to make a mistake. Such as breathe fire in human form or slip up in battle.Always another fucking battle.

Daxton’s mother had awkwardly inserted herself into the conversation and stated that dragon shifters sometimes experienced increased levels of sexual frustration before meeting their mates.

Ridiculous. He had no time for a mate. Not with a war approaching among the hot and cold-blooded alphas. The Light and Dark Ones.

Daxton crossed his arms, attempting to ignore his erection, and checked his watch. She’s late. He was a newfound king, damn it. He had much more important things to do than wait for a woman to slate his arousal.

Finally, a knock sounded.

He grumbled his frustrations under his breath as he whipped open the door. “You’re late—”

Oh.

Oh, wow.

Big blue eyes gleamed at him, like jewels in the bottom of a treasure chest. Dragons loved jewels. Anything expensive—gold, rubies, and sapphires—decorated homes of dragon shifters. The practice dated back to cave times where the winged creatures protected treasure and passed time by watching it sparkle.

Dragons were simple, hedonistic creatures at heart. They liked toowneverything. No one was more possessive than an alpha dragon.

Daxton stared at the beautiful woman and fought the desire to own her as well. She looks like sunshine. Her hair was a shocking, white-blond color. The pearlescent strands fell smoothly around her face.

“H-Hi,” the woman stumbled to get the word out between those perfect, lush lips.

Daxton continued to stare at her silently, taking her in with each ragged breath. She shifted closer, inside the bedroom, and her delicate scent wafted over to penetrate his nostrils.Melted sugar. Marshmallows dripping from firewood. The smell of youth and innocence and happiness and sheer pleasure.

He took her scent deep into his lungs, wanting to brand them with it.

The king of the Light Ones had found a woman who smelled like home.
