“Ask me to kill them, and I will,” he said, holding her tightly in his big arms, his wings still encompassing them both. “I will do anything for you. Anything you ask.”
“I d-didn’t ask for any of this,” she replied.
“I could find a witch. Turn you back.”
She blinked twice, peering up at him with wide, beautiful blue eyes. “What?”
“Witches are allies of the Light Ones. There could be a spell to reverse your…turning. Would you want that?”
“Yes!” She wrapped her arms around him now, holding him so close, he felt there was nothing in this world that could separate them. “Yes, yes, please. Truly? Please.”
He kissed the side of her head, pressing his lips to her hair, her forehead, anything he could reach from his dominating height. “You are mine now, little one,” he promised her. “I will keep you safe. They will never take you from me again.”
Incredulous, Conrad, Daxton’s confidante, asked him, “You found her?”
Conrad’s king grinned from ear to ear as he smugly informed his most trusted advisor that his mate was showering in the master bathroom of his hotel suite. “She told them she needed air and was standing on an outside balcony. I flew right down and picked her up.”
“But they had her?” Conrad asked. “Even after they denied it in the casino?”
“Dark Ones lie as much as they breathe,” Daxton shot back. Then he winced.
His mate was now a Dark One. A vampire. Not for long. She wanted to be turned back, and he would accomplish such for her.Anything for her.
Daxton stated, “We must return home as soon as possible. Call for the best witches around—we need a spell.”
“They really turned her into a vampire?” Conrad shook his head, his lips curling back in an expression of utter disgust. “Monsters.”
“She will be turned back to her original form; I know it.”
“But could you love her if she stayed a vampire?” Conrad questioned.
Daxton’s eyes flashed black. “She is mymate. I would accept her as any species.”
“Even as a wendigo?” A sort of cannibal zombie—the thing of nightmares.
“I suppose she would devour me because I would not fight her off.”
Conrad blew out a harsh breath. “So, the matehood thing is…a thing.”
“I can hardly describe it. The pull to protect and touch her. To see her smile.”
“The light shifters will not…” Conrad pursed his lips and sighed. “There may be conflict in making a vampire our Queen.”
“Don’t care,” Daxton said, striding over to where his laptop sat on the living room table of the vast hotel suite. He sank onto the couch and opened the device.
“What are you doing now?”
“I wish to buy my mate clothes while she showers.” He wanted to absolutely spoil her. Woo her. Win her.
“What happens when the Dark Ones realize she is missing?”
Continuing to online shop and ignore him, Daxton asked, “Would Luna look better in pink lace or red lace?”
“Daxton,” Conrad said.
“Let them try to take her from me again.” Daxton closed his laptop. A dark threat rang clear in his low voice. “I dare them.”
Luna scanned the large bedroom, taking in her surroundings. From one prison to another? Just because these men thought she was their mate did not mean they were hers. Just when she had started to like them, Bastille, Sly, Nikolai, and even Kobe had betrayed her by changing her into a vampire.
