“Shouldn’t have run from me, sweetheart. Collateral damage.” He smirked and licked his lips as his eyes dropped to my mouth.
His face was so close that I could feel his hot breath mingling with mine. He smelled of pine and spice, and I’d be lying if I said it didn’t turn me on even more than our current position. But this was not the time nor place to even consider thinking about sex. Not to mention, I despised the man above me.
“Collateral—Fuck you, Derek,” I screamed; my body was shaking with rage; I was so pissed off at him. He leaned down, his lips grazing my cheek, and I swallowed the additional words I had for him.
“You forget, pretty viper. I love it when you run.” His smooth voice, dripping with desire, caused my blood to heat, and not in the way you’d think.
As he pulled back, our eyes meeting, I relaxed in his grip, giving him exactly what he wanted.
“You want to play the chase game, Derek?” I purred, biting my bottom lip and giving him a sultry stare as I brought my face up to meet his, our noses touching. “I’ll give you a chase, sweetheart,” I whispered, hissing the last word before driving my knee hard into his balls.
Derek curled in on himself, falling to the side with a curse and a deep, angry groan. “Ffffuuuccckkkk…”
I flipped myself over and took off from the alley, grabbing my busted laptop just before I turned the corner, laughing like a deranged woman.
Too fucking easy.Sure, it was a cheap shot, but it was my only way out of his grasp.
I managed to reach the end of the block before taking a sharp turn and crashed into a hard body, falling backward onto my ass.
“Are you fu—” I looked up to see an unruly head of dark hair and green eyes glaring down at me.
With his arms crossed over his chest and a smug grin plastered on his face, I couldn’t help but snarl at him like a feral cat ready to bite.Marcus. Can’t I catch a fucking break fromanyof these assholes anymore? It was as if they were everywhere I turned now, literally. If I didn’t know any better, I would assume they had a tracker hidden somewhere on my body.
Did they? Oh shit.
“Alright, let’s go, Alexis. Fun’s over for the night,” He stated, bending down and grabbing me by the arm, hauling me up to stand, and attempting to put handcuffs on me as I squeezed my hold around my laptop. I could try to run again, but two against one had me outmatched. Like Marcus said, my night was over.
“Dean, take the laptop,” Marcus ordered.
Make that three… Dean stepped out from the shadows of the brick building, prying the laptop from my hands as Marcus handcuffed my wrists behind my back. He squeezed them a little tighter than the first time; I knew that meant he was annoyed with me as much as I was with him.
Turning my head back towards the alley I had run out of, I could see Derek strutting over to us like he didn’t just get a hard kneeto the balls from me. I couldn’t help but smirk at the thought. I hoped they were throbbing, a reminder to never cage me in.
“All three of you? Seriously? What, Derek can’t handle me on his own anymore? Does the pretty boy need help from his baby agents?” I mocked, bearing my teeth at Dean. “Isn’t it well past both of your bedtimes?”
We’ve been doing this dance for months since Chyler ran off with Atlas. Madison and I spoke briefly last week, but she was too busy with her own life changes to spend any more time with me. Chyler was cut off completely, which was no surprise.
I didn’t blame her for leaving and not coming back. Honestly, I couldn’t give a fuck; she was a big girl and could make her own decisions in life. What I wouldn’t give to just run away from it all if given the chance.
On the other hand, Madison was devastated, putting it lightly. But she came around after finally being able to talk to her. They spoke for hours about what had happened over the past six months, and in the end, Madison still hadn’t completely forgiven her for abandoning us to the CIA.
But did she really abandon us? We were free from bars and handcuffs—for the most part. Derek, Marcus, and Dean never turned us in as they initially intended. I suppose Atlas and her will figure their shit out when they return to Minneapolis, whenever that may be.
“Baby agents? Seriously, Alexis? That’s the best you can come up with? I’m actually disappointed with your comebacks tonight. Not as witty as usual.” Marcus raised a brow and shoved metowards Derek, the handcuffs digging into my wrists with the movement.
I growled as I stumbled, attempting to regain my footing when Derek stepped up to us and gripped my bicep tightly, glaring down at me.
“Fuck off, Marcus.” I gritted my teeth in annoyance.
“That’s all for tonight, boys. Thanks,” Derek spoke without taking his eyes off me. I couldn’t help but roll my eyes at him as they both nodded and turned to leave.
“Let us know if you need anything else, Derek,” Marcus opened the driver’s door of their car and slid inside.
“See, he even called youboys.” I teased over my shoulder.
Remembering that Dean had my laptop, I abruptly twisted my body in Derek’s grasp to face him.
“Hey! My laptop. Give it back.” I gave a pointed look at Dean, who smiled as he tossed it into the backseat and then slid into the passenger seat himself, not saying another word and shutting the door.Motherfucker.
