“Always.” Shifting forward again, she slides her hand between her legs. “There’s always room for you in here, Ryker.”
I laugh and she smiles as she strokes herself. “Each of my mates has a special place in my heart, but you…” She inhales a deep breath. “As my first love, the only one who knew me before—” Stopping abruptly she pulls her hand off her sex. “Ryker, you will have the number one place in my heart—and in mycunt.” Her hand slides over my cock.
Shit. It was just starting to calm down, but her fingers have wakened it.
“Easy there, Tavi. Do that again and I’m gonna pound you right now, whether you’re ready or not.”
A lusty grin takes over her lips. “Once you’re my mate, you can take me whenever and however you want.” Rising up onto her knees, she traces her hand through her folds, and her scent nearly steals my sanity.
For a brief second, lust drives me to agree to whatever the fuck she wants just so my cock can get the satisfaction it needs.
“What’s up with that dungeon?” I ask as casually as I can. “Came with the job, I guess?”
She shakes her head, and rests her ass back on the sofa, legs tucked to the side. “The dungeon was my idea.” Her eyes flash with something I can only describe as evil. “A special prison to punish those who wronged me.”
I nod, smiling just enough to cover the shiver that goes down my spine. Even back when I met her as a baby vampire, she was bent on revenge, determined to make everyone who wronged her pay with their lives, or more.
I had to explain to her that, even though as vampire she could kill a human easily, doing so would land her in a vampiric jail for the rest of her very long life.
“You built all that?” I need to find out as much as I can.
“The tunnels and caves were my family’s, used for bootlegging, gambling, scaring the shit out of our enemies when needed—and body disposal.” A grin spreads on her face as her eyes narrow. “I’ve continuedthatuse. Anyone who knew about those tunnels is either dead or trapped down there.”
“Impressive. But didn’t DEFTA already have a prison?” As the lead vampire syndicate in the area, DEFTA has the power to arrest, try and carry out the sentences of any vampire who commits a crime.
Evil invades her eyes again and a chill races down my spine. “The DEFTA prison is forbasiccrimes,” she says.
“Like murder? Vampircide?” I cock my head to the side, trying to keep the judgment out of my face and my voice.
She laughs. “See?” Her hand strokes my chest. “You get me. The dungeons are for far worse crimes than that.”
“Like piracy?” I feel like I’m pushing it, but really, I still have no clue why the fuck Zuben, Ember and I ended up down there.
She flicks her wrist. “You being sent there was different. A mistake. Zuben thought…” She shakes her head. “It doesn’t matter. He was wrong. Worse than wrong. He lied to me, and for that he will pay for eternity.”
Her lip curls, the corners turning up, but it’s a bastardization of anything that could be called a smile. The idea of Zuben being locked up forever, of his being tortured down there like she tortured me—she’s absolutelydelightedby the idea. Turned on by it even.
Her lips are pulsing. “Anyone who wrongs me pays.”
Ember sure the fuck hasn’t wronged her, but how do I bring her up without letting Octavia know that Ember’s skin reacted to silver, which will only lead to other questions.
Reading between all the malevolent lines, I’m pretty sure Octavia doesn’t know that a female—human or vampire—was captured along with me. And what happened during my “questioning” tells me that Octavia thought it wasmyblood that let vampires walk in the light.
Perhaps Zuben knows I drank from Ember and thought that power would transfer?
This is the trickiest negotiation of my life—and with the highest stakes. I need to get Ember out of there. But I also need to look out for number one.
“I’m bored of talking.” Octavia pushes my crossed leg to the floor and straddles me, rubbing herself against my sensitive package. “I’ll call the priest.”
“The priest?” I put my hands on her hips to still her, but barely manage to slow her motions down.
“Yes, my lover.” She grinds against me. “I’ll order the priest to rush our mating ceremony, so we can get on with the fucking.” Bending, she closes her mouth against my throat.
Chapter Four
Ember
The large, bear man stays below the water’s surface so long I fear that he’s drowned, or that the pool leads somewhere else and he’s left me. And although I’m once again safe and warm, the idea of his leaving me here alone is unbearable.
