It’s impossible to know exactly what’s going on between Ember and Nora, but clearly the witch is creating a series of illusions to trap my love.
My heart accelerates as Ember struggles against some invisible force, clearly in pain. Then Nora’s grin widens and my blood turns to ice. Ember’s movements slow, as if she’s been defeated, and I want to die.
But then my love sweeps her arms to the side, then forward. Her mother is tossed back, pushed by a strong beam of light.
Ember still can’t fully control these powers she has, but she’s learning.
The witch, the African American one, arrives at my side. She smiles lasciviously as she strokes my chest. Revulsion rises in my throat at the unwanted touching I have no power to stop. Then she waves her hands in front of me, creating circles in the air.
The wooden stake that’s been pointed toward me drops to the floor with a clatter, then whatever force has been holding me in place releases.
“Fuck!” I shout as I drop forward onto my knees.
Ember turns at the sound of my voice, and Nora takes advantage. She creates another illusion—one I can see too.
My love, suddenly naked, is grabbed by some kind of large beast, half man, half monster. Seeing him, she cries out, but he wraps a massive clawed hand over her mouth, capturing the sound as he bends her forward. Turning both himself and Ember in profile to me, he reveals a massive cock, even larger than Axe’s. And worse, it’s encased in some kind of silver sheath.
“No!” Screaming, I try to run toward her, but my ankle’s still cuffed in silver and bound to the wall.
“What’s wrong?” Axe asks.
I turn back quickly.
He’s unfrozen now too, as is Zuben, but clearly they aren’t seeing what I am.
Then Axe’s expression changes.
I turn back. The beast is penetrating Ember, fucking her hard from behind while tugging back on her hair. She’s moaning as if she enjoys it, even as smoke and the smell of burning flesh rises from the sex.
“It is only an illusion,” Zuben says, but I don’t turn toward him.
As hard as this is to watch, I can’t turn away. I grab at the bars of the cage and I can barely feel the pain as my hands sizzle and I try to reach her.
“Sisters,” one of the witches says, “we are locked in this cage with the beasts.”
From her bent over position, Ember stretches her arms to the side. Blinding light fills the room and the beast disappears.
When my vision returns, Nora is pinned high on the wall, surrounded by swirling light, her expression angry but smug. She’s not afraid of Ember. Not one bit.
“Evanora,” one of the witches calls out. “The key. We are locked in here!”
Ember turns toward the cage, closes her eyes and then thrusts her arms toward us. Light fills the space, fills my senses too. I can’t see or feel anything beyond the light that’s both hot and cold at once, and has stolen my ability to see or breathe. But I trust her.
A sound breaks into the cocoon of light holding me. But I still can’t move.
The light vanishes, as if someone turned a switch, and I look in horror. Nora took the opportunity to attack Ember. Still facing us, she’s spread eagled, held by silver chains. What looks like molten silver drips onto her from a bucket suspended above.
Hearing a fierce roar behind me, then a shrill scream, I turn.
Axe has shifted into bear form and has pinned one of the witches to the floor. His mouth is open, his long fierce teeth exposed.
“Evanora!” The blond-haired witch shakes the cage walls. “Let us out. Save us. The bear will eat us all!”
The third witch glares at Axe and swirls her hands. He yowls in pain, although I can’t see what’s causing it. I lunge for the witch who cast the spell and wrap my arms around her throat.
“Release your magic!”
Her eyes widen as her airway’s blocked off and my fingers tighten. One quick movement and I could break her neck.
