“My king! I followed her!”

Kane’s hand freezes.

“I followed her. I peeked through the portal and I watched the fallen angel and his shadows take her.”

“Where did they take her?” Ramiel demands.

“Mercy,” she begs, her voice pathetic, though there’s a gleam of mischief in her eyes that lets me know she’s playing a very dangerous game.

One we do not have time for.

I lift my own hand, letting my magic settle over her, healing the torn flesh as good as new.

One it’s done, she huffs a breath.

“Mercy,” she repeats.

Ramiel growls. “Mercy, You have my word. Now fucking tell us where she is.”

She nods, as though satisfied. “I will do you one better, my king. I will show you.”

“We have to go, then. Now,” I urge, gathering the shadows around us.

“We need to get her back.” Kane pulls his attention away from the demon, and when he stares at me, I can see the desperate pain in his eyes.

“We will, brother.” Ramiel steps forward. “But we cannot do it alone… Thuriel… He is too powerful.”

“Who is going to help us?”

We’ve garnered enemies over our years as the mafia, even as Lords of the Underworld. The demons do our bidding because they fear us, and I’m not sure if it’s even really out of loyalty.

Ramiel’s magic surrounds us. “Everyone,” he whispers.

Ramiel

Iwillburnthisworld down to get her back. I will destroy the Underworld, climb up a fucking stairwell to heaven itself to force every angel to do my bidding if it means going up against Thuriel. I’ll tear his throat out with my bare hands.

Fuck his lightning. Fuck his magic.

Fuck the shared blood that runs through our veins.

Nothing is more important than the woman I’ve come to love.

Nothing.

So I do what I’ve promised. I call in every fucking favor I’m owed. Years of garnering my cards close to my chest, of holding information over the heads of shithead supernaturals up in the human world, have led me to this moment. To hundreds of creatures at my fucking disposal.

Hundreds of creatures we will need if I want to go face to face with my brother.

He’s strong. Recently fallen means he still has the magic of the heavens at his disposal. That magic has long since been burned away for me and now I rule over something different.

I rule over death, and yet I cannot kill him. I cannot kill beings of equal or stronger power level than I. It’s why I couldn’t fight back when he attacked me. Why he felled me easily and why he got away with his whispered promise of retribution.

Had I been better prepared then, I never would have let him leave my presence alive.

Not after he threatened my woman.

But now he will feel the wrath of every demon, every gargoyle, every shifter, witch, vampire, and undead I have at my disposal.
