The members drop their weapons at the sound of my voice. Almost immediately, Naomi comes barreling into the room, frantically searching for me.
When she sees me, her eyes widen. They go to Lorenzo’s shadowy, unrecognizable figure at my side, eyes narrowing.
She reaches into her leather jacket, pulling out a gun and pointing it in Lorenzo’s direction.
What the fuck?
My body moves on instinct, stepping in front of him. Even though I know she can’t shoot him.
The gun lowers. Her face scrunches up with confusion. “Lourdes?”
“Naomi…” My voice breaks. I want to reach out and hug her, but I’m nothing but mist.
“Where are you, Lourdes?” Her eyes stray to Lorenzo. “Tell us so we can come get you.”
“Naomi, I’m fine.”
“What the fuck happened? There’s blood at the house!”
“Um…” I’m not ready to tell her about the roommate situation. I’m not ready to see the disappointment on her face just yet. “I was attacked.”
“By who?!”
“I don’t have a lot of time to explain. I just wanted to let you know that I’m okay. I’m safe. You don’t have to worry about me.”
“Like hell.” Her gun lifts, pointing it at Lorenzo’s head over mine. “Where is my best friend? Where are you keeping her?” Her eyes narrow as she stares at him. “Wait a fucking minute. Are you that demon thing from Sinful?”
Lorenzo chuckles, and every MC member in the compound shivers against the sound.
“Time to go, Amore.” Lorenzo’s arms wrap around my waist.
Naomi’s eyes zoom in on the motion. “Lourdes,” she whispers. “What the actual fuck is going on?”
“Naomi,” I snap. “Estoy bien, okay? I know people are after me and I’m as safe as I can be. Te lo prometo.”
“Wait!”
“I have to go now, Naomi.”
One blink and we’re at the compound, and the next we’re back in Lorenzo’s room.
I sigh, leaning back against his chest. His arms tighten around me and I draw comfort in the act. Seeing Naomi was harder than I thought it would be and did nothing but build an ache in my chest.
Lorenzo drops a kiss to my temple. “Amore…”
“Hmm?”
“You stepped in front of a gun for me.”
“Hm? Oh, yeah.”
I twist to look up at him. His face is clouded in shadows. For a moment, I think he’s angry with me. Anxiety starts to rise in my chest before he whips me around and drops to his knees in front of me.
“I suppose I should thank you properly then.” His hands glide up the backs of my calves.
“Yeah… I suppose you should.”
“I am going to make you come. Hard.” He presses a kiss to the inside of my knee. “Then, I am going to take you on a date.”
