He inches closer, his existence almost suffocating me.

I’m transfixed by his lips, his neck, the tangled branches tattooed on his skin. “See, Zanae, your cheeks betray you. They’re as red as you are inflamed.”

I’m amused. Murderously amused.

His gaze remains fixed on mine, he’s enjoying it as much as he’s hating it. It’s fascinating to see how much you can read in people’s eyes. Not him though, I’m still learning with him.

“Any thoughts of murder tonight? I’m feeling way better this time.”

His attention shifts to my lips. “Not sure. I might hold off a bit longer, especially since you look quite good tonight in that dress. It would be a shame to waste it,” he remarks, his tongue grazing his lip.

Breathe Z. Breathe.

“If the dress is all that’s holding you back, I can easily take it off, and you can finally have what you want so badly, Elijah,” I reply with a playful grin, tracing my finger along my throat as if it was a blade. “Me,gone.”

Leaning closer, his voice takes on a low, raspy tone, laced with a trace of desire. “I could easily tear it from your body if I wanted to. I wouldn’t mind,” he admits, tracing my cheek with his finger.

“Keep your hands to yourself, Elijah.”

His lips curl into a faint smile, barely noticeable on his stoic face.

“Someday,Milaya, you’ll beg me not to.”

Before I can respond, Nikolai returns to the room. He glances between us, and with a sly grin, then, speaks up, his voice dripping with sarcasm.

“Well, did I miss the beginning of a love story?”

My gaze met the Devil’s again, only to find him playing with a knife, still tapping on the table again.1.2.3.4.5.6.7.8.9.10.

I roll my eyes, irritated by the whole situation. “Never.”

Elijah drops the knife on the table with a force that made me flinch. “Stop that,” he says in a deep voice, barely audible yet so loud. Confused, I look up at him, and he continues, “Don’t roll your eyes at me.”

And what next? Getting on my knees and worshiping him?

My ass.

I resist the urge to slap the shit out of him. My hand grabs his, and I move it away from the knife. “And if I don’t want to?”

He reclaims his grip on my wrist, his strength overpowering me. “The next time you do this, I’m going to give you a real reason to roll them back forever,Milaya.”

“Please do,” I challenge. “At least just try.”

But he just smiles, pulling his hand away from my hand slowly.

Asshole.

Niko observes us without a word, as if it was something normal.

“I swear you two are going to drive me insane. We’re on the same side here, right? Besides, we’ve got a mission, and I’d hate to see you ruin those exquisite faces of yours before the real fight even begins.”

“He’s right. We’ve got work to do, aren’t you a pro or something, Elijah?”

Satan finally cracks a small smile. “I suppose you’re right,Milaya.”

Niko claps his hands together, satisfied with our interaction. “That’s the spirit.”

A few moments later, we stood outside, the wind slapping my face.Oh, how I love the night. Even if I don’t show it anymore.
