“Okay…”
He releases my shoulder, and I walk back down the hall. I canfeel his eyes boring holes into my back as I retreat.
What the fuck was that about?
* * *
“So, how long have you been with Midas?” Brooke asks.
“Well… It’s a weird timeline, really. Recently? About nine months. All together? Maybe four years.”
She nods.
“What about…”
My expression says it all—what the fuck?
“Reese? Excuse me?”
“How long has… Reese been with Midas? Like, as a personal assistant or whatever.”
God, where has my brain gone? Duh.
“Oh, um, they have been friends since they were kids. Also, call him Damien. We don’t need to inflate his ego.”
She nods, sitting cross-legged on the guest bedroom floor. A loud slam makes us both jump. Damien must be home.
“Stay here. I’ll come back after I greet him,” I say hurriedly.
Brooke nods.
I rush down the hallway and spot a happy-Damien. Relief washes over me. He’s not mad, just happy.
“There she is,” he greets with his arms wide open. I walk over to him, allowing him to embrace my body. He groans as he squeezes my ass.
“Reese. Monitor that bitch down the hall. I’ll get you when I’m done,” he calls out.
Reese lets out an annoyed sigh as he exits the room. I don’t miss the glance he gives me, though. One of desperation. One of understanding.
“We need to celebrate,” Damien whispers against my neck.
“Celebrate what?” I ask in a playful voice.
“Our new facility.” He kisses my neck, sucking on the sensitive skin.
What new facility? I don’t ask him. He doesn’t like me to know too much.
“Congratulations, baby.” I kiss him back.
He crashes his lips to mine. I taste nothing but evil. His tongue invades my mouth eagerly, and I let him. I know what happens if I don’t.
He grips the back of my neck, squeezing it as he deepens his kiss. He grinds his erection against my stomach. Damien groans.
He breaks our kiss, his breathing heavy and unregulated.
“Fuck, babe.” He picks me up, hurling me over his shoulder, and he makes his way into the dining room.
He pushes all of the papers off of the table, letting them scatter on the floor below. The dining room has glass surrounding it on all sides. It’s basically a sun room.
