He slowly pushes open her door and she lies nearly lifeless on the ground. I walk over to her, trying not to vomit from the smell. She is malnourished and has extreme dark circles. Her lips are cracked and her hair is matted.

“H-hey,” I say to her.

“Hi,” she says quietly, not breaking her stare from the ceiling.

“You’re going to come with me, okay? But you can’t run.”

She blinks once.

“Okay.”

What? Why would she just agree? She has lost her mind, hasn’t she?

I grab her hand and lift her onto her shaky legs. She swings her arm around me, and I am hit with a disgusting odor. She needs a bath. Bad.

I walk her out into the hallway.

“Are you an angel?” She asks in a lazy voice.

“No, but Iamgoing to save you.” I admit to her quietly.

I’m going to try my best to save her. And myself.

Leave it to my queen to let the peasant into the castle.

I’m giving her two months to see it through. Otherwise, the bitch is on the chopping block. She even asked her what her name was.

The funny thing is we always change their names when they arrive. We give them a fresh start; but with Brooke, we kept it. She seemed like she didn’t know who she was anyway.

We picked her up from outside a club. She was begging for money. Homeless. We gave her what she needed. Shelter. She should forever be indebted to us; but once I have a client who wants her, she will be cleared of her debt. Until then, she is going to have to work extra hard to keep me from cutting her losses early.

I pace my study, thinking of what I am going to do next. I always have a plan. Right now, the plan is to keep Harmony distracted while I focus on a plan to kill off my brother and his asshole of a best friend.

They decided to scope out The Orchard, which means now I am going to have to look into relocating. I can’t risk them coming in and destroying everything I’ve built. Luckily for me, with Brooke here, we only have seven girls and one boy in our facility at the moment, which means easy transport. I put a hold on a new girl. I’ll need to wait until we get her to move our operations.

I’m supposed to go meet Dustin at the property later this afternoon. He handles my investments and has never steered me wrong before. I pull out my cell and call Reese.

“Reese,” he answers.

“I need you to watch Harmony and that stupid bitch later.”

“You mean Brooke?” He asks.

“Yeah. Her.” I roll my eyes.

“I can be there in an hour.”

“Good.”

I end the call. Reese has always been one of my best friends. He is the one who found me on the ground that night. He was only about two minutes too late.

I send a text to Dustin letting him know I am clear.

Today is going to be a good day. I can feel it.
