I’ll be damned. She doesn’t even try the back door. Instead, she grabs a knife and turns, aiming it towards me. Those light blue eyes are holding a gaze fueled with fury as she stares me down and I hold up my palms again, surrendering. “I promise I won’t hurt you. If you put it down, I’ll explain,” I say, lowering my head to make our eyes meet.
Her eyes squint for a split second, but whatever she saw, she didn’t like it, and she slashes forward, slicing my arm open and screaming, “Fuck you!”
The cut went deep and the pain hits as quickly as her blade, causing me to stumble back. She takes advantage, pushing past me and heading back towards the living room, prepared to take on her next victim. I’ll give her credit, she’s got some fight in her.
I groan, chasing after her, but Daemyn was quickly back on his feet, grabbing her by the waist and pulling her back towards his chest. His hand skims down her arm, landing on her wrist, before twisting it just enough, the pressure forcing her to drop the blade. Without wasting time, he kicks the blade toward me and I bend, picking it up to secure the knife in the back of my jeans. Tucking it far away from anywhere she would touch.
“Please don’t hurt me! Please!” Nora’s screams turn into sobs, with tears running down her face. She’s trembling in fear and Daemyn’s eyes bounce to me, waiting for orders. No idea why. He’s the logical one. I have no idea how to stop this and I stare at him, waiting.
Something clicks and he nods towards me before he gently says, “Nora, look at his arm. Right where you cut it.” I smile, knowing what he has in mind and lift my arm, inching closer. She flinches in response.
I hold up my arm, showing her the gash she delivered. She sunk the knife straight into my forearm, right above the snake design inked into my skin. The blood is drying as the skin stitches back together. As she watches, her skin turns completely pale, her face draining of blood, and her eyes widen, seeing my skin repair itself.
On impulse, I inch forward, placing my hand against her cheek with a need to comfort her. “Look—”
“Get off of me!” she cuts me off, attempting to twist out of Daemyn’s hold, surprising the crap out of us as she fights against his power. If he can’t calm her then what the fuck can we do?
“Okay, I’ll move away,” I say, stepping around them and making sure my back is towards the front door, positioning myself while creating a distance between us. “But I need you to listen to me. You’re in danger.”
Nora ignores my words, putting all her effort into wrestling against Daemyn’s grasp. He holds her tiny frame and then easily lifts her, turning around to face my direction. He’s mimicking my action, becoming a barrier between her and the kitchen door. Softly he says, “I’m going to let go now, but I need you to listen. We had to protect you. Your life and Adriane’s are in danger.”
Nora‘s face somehow grows worse, turning a deadly white, and all fight leaves her. I keep my gaze on her as I nod, telling Daemyn to loosen his hold. He steps back with caution, keeping watch as she looks between us. She stumbles forward, her eyes widening, recognizing that she’s caged. She’s terrified for good reason, and unaware that we are keeping her safe. By the gods, let’s hope we can keep her that way.

When Destiny Intervenes
One second Nora was here, and the next she’s gone! These two guys grabbed her and they just vanished right in front of my eyes. My breath is coming out in ragged puffs and my eyes darting around, but where could she have gone? I move forward to where she was and wave my hand around where she disappeared and nothing. My heart races and my pulse pounds loudly in my ears. I’m looking left to right, hoping my eyes are playing tricks on me.
“Nora!” I yell out. I take a step back and bump into someone, I rake my trembling fingers through my hair. My hands are shaking and I can’t seem to get my bearings. Do I have a fever? “Is this a dream?” I say out loud, because what else could it be?
“Why would you say that?” says a voice as smooth as silk, and I glance up. A brown-haired, muscular, tattooed guy, with these honey brown eyes is the owner of the voice.
Another towering man steps out from behind the imposing first one. Scary guy has tattoos on his neck and peeking out of the collar of his shirt. His blue-black hair reminds me of a raven’s wing. His icicle eyes catch my attention. The way he is looking at me makes my heart pound.
This has to be a dream. I mean, no way are these two guys real. Thinking back, the guys that grabbed Nora were fantastic looking too. My mind races back to Nora. I need to find her. My gaze darts towards the hot guy with icicle eyes who gets closer to me, and I step back right into the brown-haired guy’s chest.
Fuck, I just cornered myself.
Icicle Eyes outstretches his hand and waves it around, causing a ripple to go through the air, clearing as quickly as it appears.
Ok, what the hell was with the hand waving?
It’s misty and cold around me. Icicle Eyes grabs my arm with force and pulls me towards the coldness. “Lets go, Jax.” The brown-haired guy is right behind me, so I couldn’t even fight him off if I wanted to.
Cold wraps around me and fear pierces my heart because this shouldn’t be possible. I’m not sure where the hell Nora is or where the hell I’m going to end up.
As soon as everything materializes around me again, I’m shoved away and fall to my knees. A sharp slice of pain shoots up my thighs and my breath catches in my throat. The black-haired guy stands in front of me glaring down at me.
What the fuck!?
I stand up and punch him right in his nose as hard as I can, putting all my weight behind it. Still, his head doesn’t move much, and the pain radiates up my arm, but I don’t let it show.
A bolt of laughter rumbles behind me, and it’s Jax who is laughing. “Cuff her! Now!” Icicle Eyes’ voice booms, echoing around the cave.
“That is all you, bro,” Jax says. Taking in my surroundings, I’m in a dark cave where a light green misty fog covers the area and torches line the walls. Before I know what is happening, Jax has me in a vice grip and tall, dark, and handsome is smiling cruelly at me as he grabs my hands and places them in cuffs.
I kick at him and he laughs at my feeble attempt. “The sooner we get to the palace, the sooner I’m free of all this hassle,” Icicle Eyes says.
