For days he has kept to his no contact rule, holding us at a distance. Even during last night’s game of blackjack. I came in, sat next to Alexius, and he straight up flew out of the chair and sat even further away from me. Jackass couldn’t even be discreet about it.

Now his sudden proximity is killing me. His hand lays mere centimeters from mine, teasing me with how close it is, yet still untouchable. His leg is every so often rubbing against mine, the scratch of his jeans reminding me that there will always be a layer between us.

“Babe, you alright?” Daemyn’s voice startles me, bringing their full attention onto me.

I clear my throat, seeking the only set of eyes I can handle. “Sorry, Big Boy. I’m just thinking.”

“Well, I’ve got to leave soon to send a message, but let’s cheer you up. Call in your bet.” The taunting smile spreading across his face gives him away. I must be a glutton for punishment since the same smile creeps along my lips. The best part about last night was the surprise on Alexius’ face when I finally beat their asses. There is no way I’ll let him back out of this.

“Let’s hear it!” I agree, biting down on my lip.

The Beast next to me growls, pushing himself away from the table and making his way to the fridge, putting up that distance. The muscles in his chest pull his white shirt tight as he folds his arms and leans his back against the door. “We’ll do this another time. It’s all pointless, anyway. It doesn’t matter,” he says, trying to untangle himself from sharing anything personal.

He might be irresistible right now, staring down at me with that damn hard look in his eyes, but I won’t let himget out of this though. I shake my head, pointing my finger towards Daemyn. “He’s told me his side, but he’s refused to tell me any of your secret powers. I won fair and square. He gets to tell me one today.”

Alexius shoots a pleading stare towards his best friend and in this moment, I could almost kiss Daemyn as he shakes his head, refusing to come to his rescue. We all agreed to the bet. It was a sly move, but with what happened with Hera, I deserve answers. Despite him believing it could put me in more danger.

He sighs, defeated, “My power really isn’t a secret. It’s nothing special. Once you’re gone, it doesn’t matter.”

“Yes! Anything would be special.” My cheeks flame and I wish I didn’t just blurt that out. He’s driving me crazy and I’m forcing myself towards the Beast, banging my head straight against the wall he keeps between us. I’m helpless to resist.

“For crying out loud, you two make this too complicated,” Daemyn’s sarcasm fills the air as he rolls his eyes. “Baby Girl, you have told us a hundred times how much you enjoy the sun. He’s Zeus’ son. Put it together, because it’s been a heat wave since you got here.”

Alexius’ harsh laugh fractures any warmth Daemyn’s words might have held. “Yeah, I can control the weather. Big fucking deal.” He snaps his head to the side, moving his gaze out the window. “Now what really would be special is if I can pull this off and get you the fuck away from us.”

“Goddamnit, don’t do me any favors, asshole!” I yell, a wasted effort as he stares away. He’s done with the conversation and is being a coward.

I hear Daemyn muttering beside us. I can sense his worry, but the spark between us is fueling my rage as I lean forward, grab an apple, and I launch it right at him, aiming for his chest. He flinches his shoulders forward as it hits before falling to the floor.

Everyone is quiet, but he’s reacting. His eyes are locked on mine, looking right at me. Every emotion I’ve had crossing his face.

“I know, I’m a damsel in distress and was literally picked up and placed between some god power-hungry war. But this thing between us is ten times worse.” His mouth hangs open, ready to speak, but he stops as my frustration hits desperation, “I can’t figure it out, Alexius. What the hell is it you want from me?”

Nothing. Not a damn thing. No words, just a blank stare, and I welcome Daemyn’s hand on my shoulder, sending a rush of his calm through my body. “Hate to break up this fun party, but if I’m going to make it, I need to go get ready. If you need me to, I can stay.” Daemyn leans in, whispering the last part just to me.

I take a second to scan the brooding asshole in front of me. His jaw is tense, and every muscle is flexed tight, his arms folded in front of him. Unsurprisingly, I can’t even hold myself to my own words. This damsel in distress is still begging for him to be my Prince Charming. I sigh in defeat, shaking my head towards him. Alexius is done for the day. There is no penetrating his wall.

With a quick kiss to my forehead, Daemyn says goodbye and turns, marching his way in front of Alexius. “Control yourself,” he orders in warning and then makes his way up the stairs, leaving the Beast and I alone.

Our eyes gravitate to each other as growing silence invades the room. It’s deafening, but clear. We’re unsteady, trying to navigate between two worlds that shouldn’t coexist while I beg him for something he’s unwilling to give.

Overwhelmed, I push away from the table and make my way towards the back door. “I just need a few minutes. I’ll keep the door open, of course,” I say facing him as he stays deep in his own thoughts, staring at my empty chair.

“Okay. I’ll be in soon,” I mumble, turning away. My hand barely touches the handle when a powerful force collides against my back and I’m pushed, caged against the door.

He surrounds every inch of my body. The press of his chest against me, his fiery breath cascading over my skin, and every inch of his body flush with mine. “Alexius,” I whisper, unable to fight. I just lean forward, resting my head against the cool wood, allowing myself to become lost to him.

He lets out a small breath as his hand moves into my braid. With a simple twist, he exposes my bare neck to him and he pulls me under his control. Excitement washes through me, watching him lick his lips as his eyes grow heavy.

“What I want from you?” he rumbles, dipping his head. The stubble of his chin scrapes against my neck as he slowly moves his lips to my ear. “What I want shouldn’t happen.” His voice is barely above a whisper as the heat of his mouth brushes a gentle kiss against the increasing beat of my pulse.

“Nora, I’m drowning.” His breath hits the cool spot of moisture his lips left, sending a shiver that I feel deep in my soul, increasing as his hand comes up. The merciful touch of his rough hand reaches under my shirt. His palm pushes flat against my flesh, pulling me harder against him. “The closer we get, the deeper we go, the less control I have.”

I’m sinking with him. He’s consuming me, taking my body under his command. Every inch of me is screaming for him, telling him yes, begging him to lose control.

“It’s too high of a risk, but whenever I’m around you, I lose myself in you. You’re making me weak, taking me apart, piece by fucking piece, making me crave you,” he rasps out as his forefinger skims up along my cheek, making its way towards my mouth. “You’re in my head every moment, pushing me into the deep.” With a tug, he parts my mouth and his finger lingers, toying with my lower lip while his grip around my chin tightens. “These lips, I dream about them. Want to know what I make you do?” I whimper, trying to tell him yes, wanting more than just his dream.

“I want them wrapped around my cock, to watch you choke on my cum. You don’t care though. You keep sucking, demanding and taking every inch of me, with the greed I see in your eyes every day. It’s the same greed I have whenever we’re together, Nora.”
