“Fuck!” I growl. The tension from my cock rockets through me and my muscles flex, shuddering as I drain myself into her.

Our foreheads are against each other’s and it isn’t until our breathing evens out that I realize she’s shivering.

As the sun comes back, her head shifts, her eyes looking up at me from under dark lashes. Her cheeks are filled with that pink glow, and I fight the urge to chuckle, forcing myself to wait until she shares what’s going on in that pretty little head of hers. She’s ridiculously cute when flustered.

“Does it always get better?”

“I’m betting with you it does,” I slyly say, grinning a cheesy-ass smile. “In fact,” I pause and she pulls herself further away, curious as she scans my eyes. My wink is the only warning she gets before I grab her up and swing her over my shoulder. “We’re about to find out.” With a smack to her ass I rush us inside, heading straight for the shower.

“Here,” he says, handing me the bowl of strawberries. “She loves those. And we’ll need some chocolate too.” Daemyn turns around reaching into the cupboard, grabbing more supplies. I wanted to stay in bed all day. Two rounds was not nearly enough to confirm it gets better. Nora had her way though and convinced me to eat. A damn picnic, of all things.

“When do you want to do the guard bonding?” he asks, moving towards the back door and looking out towards Nora. “I mean, for her, sooner would be better.”

I agree. For her safety, I want to do this soon. I open my mouth, but Daemyn cuts me off, dropping the bowls and running out back. “Shit, Alexius, hurry!”

Fuck!

I run after him, my mind filled with thoughts of fucking having to fight Zeus, but once outside my eyes grow wide with surprise. Aetos Dios’ feathers are raised and his head is cocked to the side with his laser-red eyes watching Nora. She’s knelt down before him, watching him with the same intensity as he does her.

“Nora, no!” My scream falls on deaf ears as I watch her hand reach forward, lightly touching her palm to his head. He flinches under her touch. His wings are spreading wide, yet he isn’t forcing her away.

Aetos Dios, leave!I command, running down to Nora’s side. No one moves or acknowledges that I am there. Not even a blink when my fingers push a strand of hair behind her ear and I whisper, “Love, can you hear me?” Nothing.

I send another message and Daemyn talks to Nora on her other side. Our attempts are useless. They’re wrapped in their own impenetrable world with each other, leaving us standing on the outside, waiting for danger to strike.

“What the fuck is happening, Alexius? How can he ignore you?” Daemyn questions, his agitation building at the same pace as mine. No messenger can refuse my connection, how is he blocking me out?

Desperate to reach through, I yell my command over and over, screaming forcefully into our bond.Aetos Dios!

Try calling him by his name, asshole! It’s Raynor!Despite him pulling her into his trance, capturing her with the red blaze in his eyes, that sass in her voice is undeniable. Her lips didn’tmove. They remain locked tight, just like her gaze. But that was Nora. She fucking connected with the bird.

Aetos Dios, what the fuck is happening?

It’s Raynor, her voice snaps as she tilts her head towards me, giving me her complete attention and breaking her connection with the damn bird.

I leap for her, pulling her beneath me, shielding her body. My hands shove hard against her head, covering her ears as tightly as I can without crushing her. His piercing screams screech into the air, radiating a throbbing pressure deep in my head. Like a thousand knives stabbing my skull, fracturing it apart.

My body presses harder against Nora, keeping her safe under my arms, and Daemyn’s on wobbling feet pushing what little energy he has at the damn bird. There’s no use though, he caught us off guard, rendering us useless.

Our fate lies in her hands, the eagle’s harsh words overpower the ringing in my ears. He spreads his wings wide, claws coming out and I wince, expecting a painful stab.Protect our defender, Alexius. He shoots up, gliding into the sky.

“What the fuck was that?” Daemyn asks, kneeling beside us. I have no fucking idea. Right now, I don’t care. I peel Nora out from under me. Her body trembles as I inspect every inch of her.

When Skeletons Crumble

Since I was little, there hasn’t been many opportunities for me to share myself with others. At a young age, I learned that friends are a weakness and sharing my feelings with another being was something only lesser gods did. The powerful ones needed only themselves, and as long as they suppressed others with their strength, they would succeed. Why bother with friendship when you can bring fear to the eyes of anyone you meet, especially when those so-called friends would just use you or stab you in the back.

But these past few weeks with Adriane have opened my eyes, shown me a different way that isn’t quite so lonely. Even though it was hard to share my past with her, it’s also revitalizing in a way that I didn’t expect. She knows about Persephone, how she isn’t my mother, but she doesn’t know the full story. I tell her what I know of the affair Hades had a long time ago, and that I was the result of his infidelity.

“Her name was Lileah,” I say, smoothing down her hair as I’m swept away in the memories. I’ve heard so many versions of this story, each full of half-truths and embellishments. I tell her what I think to be true, the aspects of each story that make the most sense, even if those are the ones that hurt the most.

“She left him not long after their affair started, and then she left me too. He found me and kept me, though not to fulfill his fatherly duty. He wanted to make sure no other god could raise me, always fearful that I’d be used against him.”

“How did Persephone take it?” she asks, pressing a kiss to my jaw.
