She looks at me and shakes her head as she goes back into Daemyn’s arms. “No, I mean yes, but not what you are thinking,” she answers, and relief washes through my body.
“Sorry to be rude, but we need to get this done,” Jax says and moves a table to the middle of the room. He winks at me and I smile at him, but I can see that I’m not very convincing as his eyes are still watching me cautiously. His eyes move to Daemyn. “Quick introductions,” he says, pointing at me. “Adriane, or Beautiful, as I call her.” He smirks and points at Daemyn. “That is Daemyn.” He points at himself. “Jax. That leaves only you,” his eyes are on Nora, “so that means you’re Nora.” She nods.
I stare at Daemyn and notice that he looks like Jax. Their eyes are different, but facial features and body-wise they are the same. “Alexius infused the lightning in the stones that Kai sent.” I flinch, and I feel like the breath is knocked out of me. I must have made a noise because everyone’s eyes are on me. I feel like his name being said ripped my heart into a million pieces.
Daemyn moves towards the table and pulls out two stones. You can see the white-golden lightning moving around in the beautiful, smooth black onyx. I want to touch it, but I don’t. Maybe it’s because I know they came from Kai. “Who is Alexius?” I ask. Nora’s eyes fill with tears again and Daemyn flinches as if I had struck him. He automatically looks at Jax, who shakes his head. I know there is a secret here I haven’t been told.
Jax pours the water into two cups. “We need you to say where the ingredients come from, so Beautiful, you’re first. Say what the stone is and who it came from. Nora, you will do the same about the lightning. Once that is done you both will say ‘water from the Aegean Sea’. Since this water awoke you, it has magical properties for you. As you say the specific ingredients, you place them in this ice bucket.”
Daemyn touches Nora’s arm and they share a look. “We will handle the rest,” he says, before looking at me and I nod. Jax leans over, placing a kiss on my head and winks at me.
Jax nods his head and Daemyn hands over the stones. I bite my lip. The stone is warm in my hand, sending a small current through my fingers. I put my hand over the bucket. I look up at Nora and she gives me a weak smile. I take a deep breath, filling my lungs, and blow it out.
Showtime!
“Onyx, from my Prince of Darkness,” I say and drop the stone in the bottom of the bucket.
I place my hand down, and Nora is next. I take Jax’s hand in mine. “Lightning from my Prince of the Sky,” Nora says, her voice is a bit shaky. My eyes quickly shoot up to her. My prince? Alexius is Zeus’s son.
Jax nudges me as Nora picks up her cup of water and I quickly do the same. “Water of the Aegean Sea, which awoke us.” We pour the water in the bucket as Jax raises his hand and it starts to swirl.
Jax’s eyes glow green and a glow is coming from his hand. Daemyn gets closer to the table and I notice his eyes are glowing gold and his hands also have that golden glow.
“The elements brought together will shield you, keeping you safe and hidden from those that seek to harm you. The power of this moment will bind us together. Where once wewere separate, we are now one.” The stones and water are floating. My mouth hangs open. I look over at Jax and his eyes are moving side to side so fast, as if he is watching something play out. Then he smiles this beautiful smile, one that is free. The room is filled with hues of blue, gold, and green. “It is done.” As soon as those words leave their mouths the shadows and lightning combine with the water, causing it to implode. The water blasts outward and the stones fall to the table.
The room is back to its bright fluorescent light and I walk towards the stones, except they aren’t stones anymore. I look at Jax and he grabs one of the objects from the table and Daemyn grabs the other.
“These are not to leave your body for even a moment, they must stay on your person,” Jax says and I nod. He grabs my finger and smiles. “Even the elements knew you were a moon person, or Kai made sure the onyx would form this way.” I suck in a deep breath and he shakes his head. “I’m sorry,” he says as he slides the ring on my finger. It is the most beautiful ring I have ever seen. The band is black and the onyx took on another shape. It’s a crescent moon the color of a sapphire. On the inside I can see the lightning playing around. I can even feel small zaps of it.
I glance over at Nora and tears are streaming down her face. Daemyn is down on his knees in front of her. I hate that I feel like I am intruding in this moment, but I can’t pull my attention away. “Baby Girl, now you will always have a part of him.” He slips the ring on her finger with care, as if Nora is fragile. She throws her arms around him. He crushes her to him, whispering things I can’t make out. Once again her emotions are amplified to the room.
I look back at Jax, his eyes are on me and he pulls me to his chest. I relax into him as he kisses the top of my head.Even though my heart is broken, being here with Jax and Nora helps me so much.
“We have to hurry, we don’t have much time,” Jax says, pulling away. Daemyn is grabbing stuff and Jax has our bags.
I look over at Nora who nods, her eyes back on Daemyn. That must have been what they were whispering about. Then she freezes and her eyes zero in on Daemyn’s hand. There is a sun and lightning tattoo on it. I’m not even sure what the problem is, he is covered in tattoos, just like Jax.
Nora points at it and opens her mouth. “Baby Girl, Alexius thought of everything. I’ll explain it later.” He walks over to her and kisses her hand.
“Where are we going?” I ask Jax. He pulls my hand and we are out the door, all our stuff packed into the bags. We are leaving the hotel again and I cast one last look back, this was where it all started and where it all ends. We’re done running. The lightning sends a zap through me and the stone is cold against my skin, but I love it. It is a pleasant cold that reminds me ofhim.
“Home. We’re going home, Beautiful,” Jax finally answers. We’re going home. Relief washes through me. I feel the burning cold slither of the tattoo on the back of my neck, making me shiver.
It’s quiet when we step outside. We head off to the beach, but before making it there Jax stops in front of a tree. I look around, wondering what the fuck we are doing here. He touches the tree and his hand is glowing. “Kelsey,” he says, his voice low.
I step closer to him. “What the fuck?” I say. I don’t understand what is going on.
A beautiful woman with long, light green hair steps through the tree. The tree is bathed in a soft green glow likeher hair. Kai had told me about them. “Jax,” her soft delicate voice says. She turns towards us. “Daemyn. Nora.” Her beautiful honey-brown eyes are full of worry and she is frowning when she looks at me. “Adriane, I presume?”
Nora smiles at her, but the way she says my name has put my guard up. “So?” I say looking at Jax. “You brought your girlfriend, or I’m sorry, your nymph-friend here for what, exactly?”
“I see why the guys have fallen for you,” Kelsey says. I raise my eyebrow and she smiles. “You are beautiful and there is a fire in you. You are also a wild spirit.” She moves towards Jax and hugs him. “I’m assuming this isn’t a social call.” She looks around, as if looking for someone. “Where are Alexius and Kai?” she asks, her eyes studying our faces.
“Can you deliver this note, along with a bag?” Jax pulls out a small satchel bag and hands it to her. He points at the letter and she nods. “Kelsey, thank you so much, you don’t know how much you have helped or done for us.”
Jax gives her a quick hug. She steps away, pulling Daemyn into a hug, and then places her hand on Nora’s shoulder. I guess I’m the outsider in this circle. “Of course, I’ll deliver this. Be safe, my friends.” Her eyes land on Jax and they twinkle. “The winds of change are among us, the trees can feel it.” She steps back, the note in the bag, and the tree glows lightly as she just disappears.
Should I be shocked? Probably not, but it’s still something else to witness.
