I stop and peer up at him with my heart bursting with love. I place my palm on his cheek.

“Jamison Stone, you make me so happy. I love you so much, and I just wanted you to know that.” I seal it with a kiss.

He gazes down at me as if he’s intoxicated. “I promise to always do the best I can for you, so I think I want to give you your wedding present now.”

“Right now?”

“Yes. But it’s in the suite upstairs, so we need to go up there.”

I shake my head. “Nice try, but Melanie will kill you if we disappear for the night.”

“No. We won’t. I promise we’ll meet back up with them. I just want you to have this, and there’s no better time than now.”

“Okay, but you get to be the one to tell them what you’re up to. I’m not about to take on that kind of argument.”

“Yeah, right. Stay right here, and I’ll be back.” He jogs to Aiden and Mel.

They exchange a few words, and then he runs back to me.

“We have ten minutes before Melanie calls security on us, saying we’re in a domestic dispute. I don’t think she’s fucking around. I think she’ll really do it if we aren’t back by then.”

I snort out a laugh. “If she threatened you with that, she’s serious.”

He grabs my hand and leads me away. We pass Hunter and his date as we scurry by. I take one last peek his way. They’ve moved from the table to a sofa.

He’s casually lounging in the corner with one arm draped over the back and one resting on the arm. She’s nestled into him, listening to him whisper something in her ear. Something about it tells me he’s going to be just fine without me.

Jami smiles down at me. “It looks like he’s back to his old ways.”

“Yeah. I guess old habits die hard.”

Jami smirks, then his expression grows serious. “We need to hurry. Can you go any faster, or are your shoes bothering you?”

“I’m good.”

We pick up our pace and make it back to our suite with seven minutes to spare. Running up here caused a painful blister to form, though.

He searches for something in his duffel bag while I make a quick decision to change into a pair of Chucks. They don’t go with my dress, but at least I’ll be comfortable.

I sit at the desk and change my shoes. I finish right as Jami finds what he’s looking for.

“Here it is.” He brings a manila envelope over to me.

I take it from him. “What could this possibly be?”

“Open it and you’ll see.” He crosses his arms over his chest and shifts his weight from side to side.

I take out the document and read it. My thoughts swim in confusion. He can’t be serious about this. I scan through it one more time.

“Jami, is this what I think it is?”

“If you think it’s a job offer, it is.”

“You want me to be Jamison Stone Technologies’ marketing director?”

“Yes. We’ve worked together before and did well, so we know we’re compatible in a work environment. My business is blowing up, and if I get the right teams in place early on, the sky’s the limit.”

I place it down and stand before him. “Do you need a marketing director?”
