“Where did you find this blood witch?”
I was momentarily thrown by the question. “You want to speak to her?” A flicker of panic ignited in my chest. “Are you sure that’s wise?”
“She can’t bind me. I’m already bound to you. Maybe I can get some more information out of her.” His lip curled. “I have missed practicing my torture skills.”
Ah, there he was, my malevolent lover. “You can’t hurt her.”
“I assure you I can.”
“I mean,don’thurt her. She’s a friend of Lauris.”
“She’s no friend of mine.”
“Jasper…”
He rolled his eyes. “Fine. I won’t hurt her.”
“Promise me.”
“Dammit, Cora, I promise I won’t hurt the witch.”
Good. “A place called Shady Lane.”
He nodded. “I’ll find it.”
He didn’t have a key, though. “I don’t think just anyone can get in.”
He gave me an indulgent look. “I’m not just anyone, Cora.”
No, he wasn’t.
He kissed me softly, running his hands through my hair. “I’m going to go now. But I’ll be back.”
Panic was a weight on my chest. “You promise?”
He locked gazes with me. “I promise.” He pressed a kiss to the corner of my mouth and vanished.
He’d be fine. He’d be back, and fuck, how long would it take for worrying about him to feel natural?
The spunk-stained duvet stared at me accusingly.
I needed to clean up before the guys got home. They might be okay with Jasper and me being together, but rubbing it in their faces like this wasn’t cool. I didn’t need to be a genius to know that the room probably reeked of sex, and with shifter senses on alert…Yeah, bad idea.
I was mid-bedsheet change when there was a tap on the door.
“Cora, we’re back,” Tor called out.
Oh, fuck.
Chapter Twenty-Eight
The bedroom door swung open and Tor strode in, followed by Rune. They both froze. Rune lifted his head, clearly sniffing the air, and Tor’s nostrils flared as he inhaled.
His gaze flicked to the bed, stripped of duvet and cover, and back to me, holding said duvet and cover. His gray eyes flashed, jaw clenching, vein in his neck throbbing. “Jasper…” His voice was a bestial rumble.
Tor…Rune padded to stand in front of him.We agreed this was okay.
Rune’s voice sounded strange too, lower-timbered and gravelly.
